Low mileage
SOLD - FS 1981 survivor, low miles, factory a/c
Update: Charged a/c and it blows cold with no measurable leaks in system. NOS fuel sending unit installed. Gas gauge now working.
I'm considering selling my X (I have two so I won't be X-less) because I am thinking of purchasing a car I had in my youth. That said I guess you could say that this is a "feeler" ad if this is ok with the admins.
My X was sold to the original owner in Georgia on 6/1/82 (have all original paperwork, docs, etc) by Wheels Import Center. The sale price was $11,090.95 which included luggage rack ($159), dealer added custom stripes ($110), alloy wheels ($485) and factory air conditioning ( a whopping $695!).
The cars current mileage is 56,750 and it still has it's original rosso/arancione paint and dealer applied stripes. The paint still has a looks good with a very nice shine but it is 33 year old paint. The car lived in Georgia from date of purchase until 9/1/11 so the body is about as rust free as can be expected (the bumpers are excellent).
The second owner (a FLU officer) purchased the car around August of 2010 and sold it to me 9/1/11.
The car drives really well and starts so fast it will startle you. Nothing major has been done since very little has been required.
Whats been done in the past 4 years or couple thousand miles:
7/10 - new timing belt, new wheel bearings
8/10 - new drive belts, radiator cap
2010 - KYB struts, brake hoses
11/11 fuel filters and most hoses, complete tune up, hard star relay
1/14 - Redline MTL ( when the oil was changed there were zero metal shavings on the drain plug). The shifts great. Reverse growls a little and the pilot bearing makes a bit of noise for a minute but all is fine (just sayin).
2/19/14 - new battery with lots of cold cranking power not a cheap one.
5/6/14 - fresh Castrol 20/50 and filter, brown wire mod and 4 GA ground wire, wiper blades
While all paint is original the engine cover and rear engine grill have been powder coated satin black. Tires have about 1500 miles and the alloy wheels have been restored and refinished.
Over the years I've been accumulating small NOS items or acquiring used bits that were better to improve overall appearance while maintaining originality. Little things like NOS wiper blade arm, FI emblem, steering wheel, shift knob, speaker grill covers and dash plaque.
The dash is perfect and only the driver seat needs repair but I purchased another seat cover to fix IF the guy I left it with still has it.
The a/c needs to be recharged annually but blows cold. (Charged a/c on 6/17/14 and it blows cold. System holds charge and gauge shows no discernible leak)
The car drives very well, tracks straight, shifts great, always starts at the turn of the key, brakes well and has ZERO fluid leaks. No leaks on the targa top either. The car runs cool even in blazing Florida summer.
What needs to be done? I was going to take the door panels off because the windows squeak a little(fuzzys?), the front rotors have accumulated a little rust and for $32 I was going to change them. Recently the clutch pedal "seems a little different". No leaks but it might be needing a master down the road. The fuel gauge works only until it gets down to 3/4's full. A NOS in the box sending unit will be included with the car. ( sending unit now installed and gas gauge working).
All in all I think you would be hard pressed to find a better survivor, in I think the best color with tons of potential to be a really, really impressive car.
Price - $5800 firm.
Sorry about the length of this but just trying to be specific.
Photos - I'll be taking some soon and will get them up if there seems to be interest in the car. Thanks in advance.
