Get Inside Your Head

Dan Sarandrea (Phila)

Waitin' On Parts...
While my cooling system is drained for "the water pump mod," a new heater control valve (holy crap what a PITA!!), and to fix a leak at the thermostat housing, I thought I would use my machinist buddy's Snap-On Inspection Camera to have a look-see wherever it would fit, just to make sure I did not have any sort of blockage.

I already looked at what I could thru the water pump port in the block, but due to the tight turns in there I could not get very far. What I could see was OK.

Here's the camera going into the head thru the stat housing opening:

These are the best I could do, taking a close-up of the small screen of the inspection camera.

Front passage that traverses the entire head:

I was able to snake the camera further down that passage:

I noticed something brass-looking...

Turns out it's one of the temp senders, either for the instrument panel gauge or the thermo time switch.

This is all I could get of the corresponding rear passage:

This is a riser from the block to the head, left rear corner of the engine.

You can see some spots of that white powdery cooling system plaque here and there, but overall nothing you could remotely call a blockage or problem.
