XXX1/9 Build *Update 8/18/22 Tech Dive Video*

Good questions! It really won't be much of a fiat other than the exterior. Not sure what he is planning for the interior, I'm guessing he will put the x1/9 dash in though.

It does pretty much have all the cobalt stuff, trans axles and front steering rack too I believe. All the control arms are completely custom from sheet metal or tubing.

It pretty much is a race car built around the fiat shell.

Keep the questions coming!

Went back and took another look.
Those pictures are pure automotive porn and I can't get enough.
For the interior ideas take a look at Carl's aluminum door panels and other cockpit mods.

Racing will be at a few track days here and there. No one place in particular, will be mainly a street car.

I don't believe he does sketches I'm pretty sure he just has everything in his head. He has built many cages and suspension systems from trans am to NASCAR.

Also there won't be a rear trunk at all it will be taken up by the engine bay. I believe he is going to attach the trunk lid (probably will be out of fiberglass) to the engine cover and it will lift up as one large piece most likely attached to the fenders as well. Like an F40 or the like.

The floor I believe is carbon fiber honeycomb riveted in, one big piece.

The engine trans and halfshafts are pretty much stock except a dry sump and custom oil pan. Another ecotec engine could be put in without heavy modification.

Complete custom exhaust as you can see.

It looks like it wouldn't be too difficult to have a one piece lift off front and/or rear clip. Easy access that way.

Thanks again for sharing.

Sorry, a little off topic, but this engine (GM Echotec) and the Ford Ecoboost 4 cyl are both excellent candidates for an engine swap - as options to the popular Honda.

It really is a great power plant. You can make a ton of power with a fairly small size.

I think the biggest issue was the height.

I was JUST in Frankfort two weeks ago on vacation! My family visits every year and now that I'm living in NH I go every other year. Probably would have bugged you to see it while I was there had I known...

BTW Frankfort and the surrounding areas are beautiful...

A lot of people don't realize northern Michigan has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

We do have to deal with the 100+ average inches of snow every year.

Am following Binky from beginning, great stuff -first channel on Youtube that I started to follow, not because of Mini, but because of idea. Spaghetti Western build saga is second - for me it's even more interesting than Binky. This thread will third.

Another pretty cool thing I forgot to mention, and I wish I would have taken pics, when the carbon honeycomb floor was put on it was after the entire frame as you see it was completed (minus tires and engine).

My dad mad a custom rotary that attached directly to the frame in front and back once it was attached he could rotate the car 180 degrees upside down. That was when me and my brother helped him put the floor on.

That was the only part of the build he needed any help with.

Like this project, Binky is all about the details, the fact that they are stuffing a Celica all-trac turbo into a Mini shell is minor. They spent more time building a rotisserie than most of us would spend on an entire project. If this build was a youtube video we would be glued to our pcs watching.
Keep us posted on all the work your dad is doing on this X.
