I've always liked the look of double bubble tops. I think it could be a really good design incorporated into a custom X top.
I'm also planning modifying my top, but not for aesthetical reason, it's because I can't drive with a helmet and the top on. Meaning, I will have to remove the top in the pouring rain to run an autocross, a time trial or do some lapping.
My first project was to do a double bubble à la "Zagato", but I figured it would probably be easier to just fit a scoop over a hole on the top that would leave myself enough space to move my head.
I'm still shopping for the right scoop, maybe 2, to do something symetrical and I'm still wondering if I should have it vented, but with the opening toward the rear and recessed enough so rain won't enter unless the Wind is really blowing from the back of the car.
I had many years to think about it since my car was undergoing some restoration. At first, I was planning to insert the scoop into channels, so I could remove it and still fit the top in the frunk. But then, I eventually settle on the idea of making it permanent and since I'm towing my racing tires in a small trailer, I could fit some hooks to be able to fit my top on the trailer in case I would like to get some sun over the trip.
BTW, I saw a race x19 for sale a few years ago with a scoop on the top.... somebody stole my idea!
