Rusted Out 1970 850 Spider Fix-Up

Bodywork always takes more time than I think. Even this small amount of rust repair takes a couple of days. And since it supposed to rain starting Tuesday, I am going to wait on painting for a few more days. Try to control the rust on this thing for a few more years.

I pressure washed the whole car today…the engine compartment had gotten really cruddy…cleaned up nicely!

Alright, I lied to you guys about the garage paint booth. It was a debacle, and I ended up with runs in the paint and frustration. Took the car outside to let it dry, and decided to try to shoot the passengers side one panel at at time to see if I could paint anything!
Well, this worked out pretty good. Here is the color down on the passengers side. No runs! I am NOT showing the drivers side at this time. Patience! Anyone got some they can lend me?

This side looks swell! Go green baby!

Quarter panel color sanded as opposed to the door. I guess it looks better? A lot smoother. Still not totally smooth, but I am paranoid about cutting through. Argh! What to do?

Did I mention I hate color sanding?

It just struck me. Am I actually polishing a you-know-what? ;)
Moving right along. Cut through on the top of the rear fender (of course), and rapidly started to realize that my paint was just a little too rough to get it 100% smooth via sanding. So I have shifted gears. I am now color sanding it to about 80% flat, and buffing it to 90%. Nice and shiny, but not perfectly smooth. However, future buffing will continue to get it there, and leave me plenty of clear left. I think. I hope. Anyway, here is the deck lid.

Sorry if the polishing pics are getting boring. I don’t like to suffer alone. Drivers side is about done. Not amused that there are a couple of small runs. Sanded out most of them, but I just know they want me to push it just a little bit further for a CUT THROUGH! Three body panels left. Hope to get the chrome back next week.

Ok, it got booted out of the garage as a storm is coming tonight and my impala has had enough of this outside camping. Of course, the fiat would not start, but I am getting quite adept at pushing it around. That is pretty much it until the chrome comes back in, hopefully next week. Oh, and maybe make it run again. Oh, oh, and hook up the rear lights.

Doesn’t the painted tailpipe look better?
