Creeping shifter vagueness

Carl, I hope I don't jinx anything, but the shifting is now 'buttery smooth'. Easy and precise shifting both up and down the gears...including reverse which used to be nearly impossible to find.
I did learn one more thing along the way...that it's very important to adjust the location of the lollipop (front to back) with respect to the shift rod that connects to it. At first, I had the shift rod bolted to the lollipop too far forward and couldn't even find reverse gear when sitting in the driver's seat. It took a few tries but finally got it just right :) I hope this tread along with the pictures can help others, if needed :)

Hi folks, I guess I need a little help and a fishing lesson. I'm amassing a bunch of new parts to finally begin to refurbish my vague shifter issues, and I have a question about the transmission end of things. I know I need a new shifter boot (part no. 4201404). I also reckon I should replace the shaft seals (part nos. 4178710, 418712). What does the C3629 versus D3629 mean? (that's where the fishing lesson comes in...), for if it's a D3629 everything is very different in the shaft seal department.
It looks like it should be possible to replace these seals by just removing the cover and sliding the shaft back a bit. Is that true? And I did find reference to some shaft seals at https://classicperformance-parts.co...ugo-transmission-gearbox-selector-input-seal/. But those look very different from the pic below.
I also found what I think is the same part at Obert's http://www.fiatplus.com/GEARSHIFT-CONTROL-SEAL.html
Very confusing to me...compounded by the fact that I have not removed the shifter assembly from the car yet; I'm doing the classic "while I'm in there" replace everything as I am wont to do.
