Oil change

Hi George. Not to defer your questions, but I think it will be extremely helpful to you if I refer to the workshop manual. It has a lot of stuff like that, and so much more. Some shop manuals are rather poor, but this one is quite decent and a great resource. Best of all it is free - right here on the forum:

See if that gives you the sort of things you need to know. If not please let us know and we'll do what we can for you. ;)

Depends on what size filter you’re using. Start with four and add until the level on the dipstick reads full (after running the engine first to fill the filter). The hex key for the drain plug is 12mm

How many quarts of oil fill a 1987 bertone engine?
Does the oil pan drain plug need a metric wrench?
Thanks George

That is a good point. The Bosch filter I put on my new motor looks like it could fit inside of the old PH7 on my 1300. It would be interesting to see what the difference in volume is. I suspect you could get close by going off the external dimensions of the can.

This will tell what a particular filter holds:

There are oil filters for heavy equipment diesel engines that hold a few quarts of oil. The diesel pickup truck crowd have adapters to fit these filters to their engines. Not necessarily for the extra capacity, but for the longer service life and higher filtration offered. Obviously this isn't relevant to our little engines but interesting reading.
