1985 X1/9 - decent runner, low miles, FL area (not mine)

Low Mileage
OK, I'm at it again! Another potential candidate to save from the scrap yard.

Looking at CL late Saturday, I ran across something I hadn't seen in a long time.
An actual ad for a running X1/9... 😳

Pondered all Sunday about the ~800 mile journey to get to it.
Looked at the photos intently & thought about it being a FL car.
Woke up today & decided the rust aspect was a bit much for me.
Lots of new parts claimed on it though.

Maybe someone on the east coast has some interest. 😁

Without further adieu - 1985 X1/9

The photos don't show the areas you really want to check for rust. You can see the bottom of the door rotted. If the shocks towers, whiled screen metal, rear drainage gullies are OK it may be worth this work without major rust repairs.

Maybe not often, but regularly, I see clean, running & driving Exxes listed for 4-5k. And sometimes great deals for half that amount.

Indeed, exactly what I was thinking. If the doors/fenders show rust & holes, I fear that the area just below the windshield, the shock towers & the bulkhead are in peril also. 😬

Many folks ask if someone here can go look at a car since it's too far for the potential buyer to get to the car reasonably.

How does it have such a perfect dash with such nasty door panels and steering wheel?
Overpriced at half that much.
I noticed that also. 🤔

I was looking at the photos late Saturday night, right before going to sleep. Everything looked pretty decent at that point.
Price wasn't too outlandish & I thought we might have a contender.
Then I got a chance to look at it Sunday on the PC monitor & everything kind of fell apart. 😒

And seeing what @halr75 got for $2500, I believe you are very much on point pricewise.

I have seen that happen, particularly in the Northwest. It's actually a terrific idea & shows the strength of this community.
That being said, I would have to reserve a request like that for a strong contender & appears this one is not...

Along those lines, I half expected a few requests for me to head to Wichita Falls to see the parts cars I posted in another thread.
But either there's no interest in them or everyone is being kind to the new guy. I appreciate that!

The seller has been trying to get rid of that particular POS for well over a year. "in great shape..." Riiiight.
Not hard to see...Front-end damage covered by bra. Those pics have since been removed. AND rust over several areas.

I believe I can actually identify several scratches from several different 10" poles as well.

WHoo! Seeing ads like that gives me the heebie-jeebies..!

How different are those than the one i got for $250 in the woods by the time you're clear through the thing?
You're going to have to address everything if you don't want to drive around in an annoying clapped-out POS.
What you're in for you'll never know until you get it apart anyways.
The rubber mats at the bottom of the trunks trapped water and rusted the floors all out in mine.
Easier to do rust you can get to easily, or something like a door that you can replace.
If you want a nice car in the end, I'm not so sure it really matters which cheap one you start with,
If you're going to start with a cheap one...

Still,
having been bitten by a car with a bad block,
One that can start and run like the first one in Florida,
Supposedly a bunch of new parts and ready to go.
That at least verifies the engine is rebuildable, if not even able to leave together?

For $4k this looks relatively straight if very unloved...

Also on FB Market place for $7k with some better photos.

That Portland X has sat for at least 2-3 years. He started around $7000. Goes down $1000 every year. It was a tax donation, he probably bought it for $500.

I thought about checking it out, but nah.

And you're right, he removed the damage photos.

There was a silver one for sale in PDX a while back in better shape that finally sold, maybe $3-$4000, I forget. Almost snagged it but one is still enough right now.
