A couple of interesting articles

Biofuel instead of electricity. I believe it will eventually happen once the harsh reality of EV's and electrical power generation become a widespread problem.

What's the actual emissions benefit to synthetic fuel? The article doesn't say. You're just not using a fossil fuel, but how does that translate to better for the environment?

If you use ethanal, say, then that can be made from fermenting sugar. Which you get from a crop which takes carbon out of the atmosphere as it grows and you release it when you burn it. Of course, you also need to run all your plant and transport logistics on a biofuel or you are kidding yourself. And then there is the fertiliser issue. And the land use issue. And the low energy density issue.

It has to do with the overall "footprint" impact. They take into account all aspects of the product; source materials, production, storage/transfer, engine utilization, etc. So even if the actual tailpipe emissions aren't perfect the overall improvement to the environment is much better. I think the term is "carbon neutral". This is something the EV industry hasn't addressed. Electricity production has a very strong negative impact on the environment.
