Being that I have little or no experience with the changes from model years between 74 & 82 I need help. I'm talking like interior changes, guage colors, switches, antenna placement, color availability and wheel styles. What year did rear defrost start, what year did shoulder belts start?
82 and beyond, I think I'm ok, but if there is something you think I should add, let me know.
Production numbers would also help, but what I'd really like is number of cars sent to the US. You'll get credit for your submissions of course.
Thanks in advance,

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->On my first '74 (S/N approx. 15000) there was no rear window defroster, but on the '74 I'm currently reworking (S/N 13050), there is one, and by the looks of the wiring, it was not a dealer add-on. the switch for it is south of the gearshift on the left (driver's) side. The switch has the defroster logo and uses the fiber-optic illumination system. There is also a switch next to the defroster switch which the orig. owner wired to fog lights (add-ons, but he did use a Fiat switch tied in to the fiber-optic lighting so it looks good). I'm removing the fog lights and will use the switch for a second radiator cooling fan.

My original did not have a shoulder harness, but the current one does (definitely aftermarket).

My original did not have a radio, so ther was no antenna. The current one has an antenna on the passenger-side window post.

My original was 'medium green', which was almost a British racing green with a tan interior. The current one is lime green (yeah, I know, but I'm keeping it that color) with a black interior (it's been redone, so I don't know if black was original).

Hope this info. helps.

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Hi,

Antenna placement was a dealer installation I think. Early cars may have more variety. In the end of the 70's most antennas were on the rear fender, lhs. They moved it to the right side when the fuel injection took place and the carburettor fan became a fuel injector fan and was moved in the left rear fender.

One item that is often overlooked is the, unique for 1979, engine cover, that didn't had the large oval hole on each side. They were supposed to be added in 1980 cause the water could be trapped in the 1979 design.

Then, there were bumpers and front signal lights that evolved every couple of years. I could elaborate if needed.

Wheel styles? I think all 1300 cc had the same steel wheels. In 1979, there were a new style "rallye" wheel. In 1980 there were painted wheels (8 spokes) with a large (4") center cap while the mags wheels began to be optionnal. I think they become mandatory in 1982.

The rear "X1/9" badge (trunk) was saying just that on the 1300 cc cars. Then in 1979 it also says 5 speed. On the 1980 cars it still says 5 speed but the badge was smaller and on the injected cars, it says fuel injection.

On the dash, below the glove box, the 1979 cars didn't had the "Bertone" plaque. It only appears in 1980. It was black with white letters and red/white/green flag. It changes to a gold paque with script letters on the Bertone X1/9.

What else? Steering wheels. IN 1974 the center was hard and in 2 piece. After that we had the soft center and the silver spokes. Then the spokes turned black. Also the soft center (horn) was available in 2 styles, one with FIAT lettering, the other with the laurel and the Fiat name in the center. Can't say when the change happened.

I can continue for the nights. Any specific questions?

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->I can help with some features on the 79:

-First year of 1500 - 5 speed
-First year of electronic ignition and breakerless distributor
-79 and later cars used different grill than per-79 cars
-First year for redesigned, integrated bumpers
-New dash design. This year featured a brown dash without Bertone's signature beneath the glovebox.
-Courtesy light is the type with the push-in lens that stays lit till you push it again. Also no courtesy lights in the door panels.
-First year (I think) for shoulder harness seat belts
-Redesigned seats with use of cloth inserts on the side bolsters
-Power windows not available in 79 cars. Later cars had blank-out switch plates in console when not equipped with power windows
-My car originally came with steel mag wheels and beauty rings. These wheels were also used on 131's and Bravas
-Redesigned, higher and wider engine cover with no side trim plates on either side of engine cover
-Rebadged as "X1/9 5 Speed" on trunk
-First year for intermittent wipers
-Oil pressure gauge replaced with voltmeter in redesigned gauge package (big mistake)
-79 cars had 140mph speedo standard. Early 79 cars had clockwise tach, later 79 cars had counter-clockwise tach
-79 cars had different mirrors than previous cars, but through-the-glass mirrors didn't become available till 1980 (driver's side only till 85, I think)

This is probably more detail than you wanted. We could probably go on forever if we got into little mechanical differences!

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Hi,

Really early 1500 cc cars didn't had the breakerless distributor and electronic ignition. (I had to see 2 cars to believe it).

I don't know for the States, but the shoulder belts appeared in Canada in 1975, not in 1979.

But you are right about the rest!
