Anyone using a single 44 IDF on a SOHC 1500/1600cc

Low Mileage
We are building a hot street car that will also be used in slalom racing here and was wondering if anyone has any experience running a single 44 IDF on these engines. We had twin 40s DCOE made 105BHP before and went well until we dropped a valve so rebuild the top end and fitted power steering. Due to the steering modification we cannot fit the twin Webers, as the manifold hits the power pump. We have a single 44 IDF here and was wanting some ideas...

Bonnet Hood clearance not a problem and its RWD.

Thank you

As long as the engine and carb are longitudinal instead of transverse (carb parallel with the direction of travel) should be all good!

Yes it's RWD. We have the Dogan SLX chassis here that I see some members call ugly... It's just a Fiat Mirafiori in drag haha

Can anyone recommend the choke and jet sizes. I am tempted to go 32mm chokes.
Our IDF has a zero spill exhaust pump valve so this my need changing.
If we can get it back to 105bhp be happy as Larry.

Again thank you

Thanks Procoach.

135 main
200 airs
F11 emulsion
55 idles
Spill valve is 30

I'm going to brave an AFR gauge wideband from eBay. 14.7 here we come!

Might use it on my pinto... sorry for swearing!
😀😂😆

As delivered Weber jetting chart.

I am sure these are for a twin IDF setup as they look very similar to the setup on a Grp1 Escort RS2000 but they use 34mm chokes. I'm going to run the base jets but with 32mm chokes and a 30 spill exhaust jet. Cross fingers.

Any suggestions much appreciated

Maybe compare to what people are using in a single DCNF?
From memory, that stting was quite different from the one for dual DCNFs.

I used a single Idf for a while. I just could not get a decent snap off idle. Always felt a bit lazy Tried basically every combo of emulsion tubes, jets, pumps and chokes and finally managed to get it to work best with a balance pipe across the two intake runners. I'm guessing there was some weird cam overlap/reversion issues that buggered up the intake signal at low rpm. Had to use big pumps.

That's as good as I got the no load throttle response. Still felt a tad boggy. I think I'd be tempted to use a common plenum rather than split the runners with any single setup.

Thanks again for the advice.... paynebabes is that a 40 or 44 IDF, and what Choke sizes and spill jet did you use?
DCNF would have been a better choice but the IDF is what we have here as performance parts are very difficult to obtain.

AFR meter looks more the way to go...

Weber chart for suggested choke size starting point, choke size selection is based on motor power band and operating RPM.

Per cylinder cc:

As single carburetor:

This DCOE guide is a good place to start on jetting.

Do consider the Weber as delivered jetting per the chart previously posted. This would be the jetting as delivered when a new weber carb is purchased and a reasonable starting point.

Thanks, Bernice.
36mm chokes are too big hence 32mm as the car is street and slalom use so need the bottom end torque - 6000rpm max
As soon as it is all together I will post some pics as there is not Tofas' on the group!
