Carb question

Hello all, I was advised to use a 32 DMTR carburator for my fiat 128, but there are a whole bunch of different 32DMTR's .. Currently I am looking at an 32DMTR200 ....what does 200 stand for? Is it suitable for my 1116cc

Suffixes after the model name usual give some indication of what vehicle the carb was fitted to standard, and the jetting it was installed with, as well as any variations from the original design.

Are you sure that it just says 200?

Not something like 32dmtr24/200 or 31/200, or maybe 33/200??

31/200 is a Beta 1.3
24/200 is a Beta 1.4
33/200 is Autobianchi a112

all variations on a theme...differing venturi sizes and standard jetting

It looks like a regular dmtr, but it has a fuel bowl vent and an additional linkage arm on the choke lever...most probably a US variant for a 1300 128.

to fit up nicely to a 128 you would also want the rubber gasket and the four steel sleeves that seal the underside of the air cleaner and the steel plate that mounts on top inside the air cleaner... and the air cleaner assembly itself... the noise from a small rectangular sports air filter gets tiresome after a while, and they draw in lots of hot air too.

The stock air filter assembly does a good job of filtering and reducing engine noise.

Ditto what Steve said. I did some digging through my factory data sheets and web searching yesterday:

32 DMTRA 1/200 - 1974 128 Sedan/Wagon/Coupe USA

Other applications found (on Weber drawings):

32 DMTR - 128 Rally
32 DMTR 3 - Autobianchi A112 Abarth
32 DMTR 20 - 128 Coupe 1100/1300, 128 Rally

Other applications found (various web sources):

32 DMTR 22 - 1300 X1/9 (Euro, to '77)
32 DMTR 32 - 128 3P 1100
32 DMTR 32/250 - 128 Coupe 1100/1300
32 DMTR 34/250 - 1300 X1/9 (Euro, '77 on)
32 DMTR 38/250 - Autobianchi A112 Abarth
32 DMTR 45/250 - Seat 127 1010
32 DMTR 52/250 - Ritmo 75

Thank you all for this useful information!! So hence the "A"+200, the carb is coming from an american market, thereby being a "detuned" version, and not a good fit for my 1116 then?

If your going for any sort of originality, the a 32DMTR20 is the carb from that vintage that was on the 128 coupe / rally in europe.

like this...http://www.artigue.com/fiatcontent/carbs/32_DMTR_20.pdf

no emissions ports, and it has the original setup of having an idle air correction screw that is used to set the idle mixture most accurately.

the idle mixture (fuel) screw is number 23 in this diagram, and the idle air screw is number 16 above it.

An A suffix doesn't mean 'american' usually it stands for 'avviamento' which is idle speed correction either for emissions or ancillaries (like air conditioning) ... usually, but weber nomenclature isn't an exact science.

best guess is that carb is actually a 32DMTRA 1/200... which is a US market carb.

Incorrect mounting plate pattern, so I've never tried one.

Plus there's the issue of it being designed to fit a N/S engine and not an E/W engine...so the float pin axis is incorrect.

And the throttle linkage being on the wrong side...and the primary and secondary throats being interchanged... won't do much for the low throttle mixture distribution...

Just because a retailer has knocked together a kit doesn't mean it will work flawlessly...on a twin cam they fit OK, on a sohc it's just positioned all wrong.

That particular reseller has a 32/36dgav on everything,from a single barrel 850 to a 2litre 131... http://www.weberperformance.com.au/index.php?cPath=2_88
and "Minor installation modifications may be required to attach to existing throttle linkage"
