[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->It may be a starter inhibitor, i.e. when the gearbox is not in neutral you have to depress the clutch. There should be a switch in the box as well for this to work. I've seen this on American Toyotas

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->If there were no switch in the gearbox, the one on the pedal could simply be wired so that the clutch must be pressed to start regardless of shifter position. Is that the case with your Oz X?

I have no guess, never seen one, don't have one on mine. The starter cutout sounds like a good thought, I can't imagine what else it would be for... I know international lighting laws may vary, but I doubt you have a clutch light on the back of the car??

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->the switch on the clutch pedal is actually an emissions device!
if you look on your 4 speed gearbox you will see two switches on the front.
one is the reverse light switch, the other is connected (in a roundabout way)to the switch on the brake pedal.
Now its been a while since I read the technical report from Fiat on this (about 15 years) but the idea is.....
when shifting down? from 4th to 3rd the second of the two switches on the gearbox is engaged, this is supposed to trigger the solenoid mounted near your carby blower fan., this allows vaccuum to the fast idle device on the carb.(like when you press your fast idle swich, the button on the left side near the water expansion tank)
the theory behind it all, is the engine revs are kept up, not allowing the car to be (emmisions wise) dirty on the overrun.
the switch on the clutch pedal is to allow this action only when the clutch is depressed(?)
like i said it been a while, to tell you the truth ive only seen a couple that ever worked.

What ive done, is remove the switch and install a small top stop so the pedal doesnt come back too high. neither of my X19's have this devive fitted anymore, makes no difference to how the car runs and performs, so you could just as easily leave it all there
