Recently though I got stuck in some heavy traffic (for Eugene) and my temp gauge was showing meltdown. When I got home I checked and sure enough the fan switch is toasted. So I sit down to order one from Vic's and the catalog lists the fan switch as turning on at 190 the same time my thermostat is supposed to open. I think this means the fan will be running all the time. This can't be good on the alt, battery etc. I have thought about a manual switch but I don't want to do this unless I have to. I also don't want to switch the thermostat because the heat with it is good in Oregon most of the year. Anybody have any info or ideas on this. Later Greg.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->With the conditions you set forth... you rather limit yurself to only a few choices:

1. Find another comparable fitting switch at the temperature you want...

2. "Street Rodder" and other mags have electric fans with VARIABLE sensors so that you can change the operating temps. These are not cheap... but should work with your original fan.

3. In either case... I would wire a dash lamp in series with your fan so you can SEE when its running. Sounds like your stat change MAY have caused the demise of this fan switch.

Mine comes on so rarely and since adding two... it really draws a noiceable amout of current and drops the voltmeter considerably... I don't need a light!

Don't forget to check the operation of the fan itself!

I also got a letter from a friend in BEND who said it was over 100 degrees there today!

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->The fan shouldn't run all the time, the water will lose temp on the way to the radiator. With some airflow, the water at the radiator will always be under 190. If there's no airflow, then the water at the radiator will be able to go over 190. This will turn on the fan, causing airflow, and bringing the water temp at the radiator under 190 again.

BTW - is the temp sensor before or after the water flows through the radiator? If the hoses are connected backwards at the motor (as the PO did to my car), could this make the motor run hot? I haven't noticed my car running hot since "OR 2000", somewhere back then I found the hoses reversed and a hole being wore into one of them by the starter. Thought it was just a cool year, but this possibility just hit me.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
