i replaced two CV joints on my '87 this weekend.

i noticed that the new circlips were much wimpier than the originals.

my split-ring pliers barely worked on the originals. i had to use a second pair of pliers to get them off.

but the new ones that came with the CV joints opened very easily with my crappy pliers.

i thought about using the older (apparently stronger) ones, but i had stressed them a bit taking them off.

anyone else notice this?<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Solve the interchangability issue with YUGO ?
About the clips...I'd go as heavy as possible to fit the land/groove. I've peeled light clips off shafts before...different application though.

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->i simply used the lighter clips provided
with the new CV's.

but i was a little suprised by the difference
between the original and the new...

i never got to the bottom of the YUGO
interchangeability for 5-speeds,
so i simply bought a pair of CV's
(rather than a rebuilt axle shaft).

the few places i found only listed one part number for all YUGO's,
so i figure the 5-speed also used the older
tripode axles....

if i need cv's for my '78, i will look into this again...<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->The Yugo 5 spd uses the same axles as the 4 spd. That is the type with the internal style tripod inner CV joints. I don't know if they are interchangable with a 4 spd X1/9 or not. The length would be the only difference. You could buy the completely rebuilt axle and if the lengths were different, you could simply swap the CV joints over to your old axles.
