I just had a look at some of the cars that the X club has and it got me thinking. Ulix you car is pristine and all the others as well, and I realized the X that I have should be preserved. Not butchered. When I road raced, I went through a lot of parts and if I turbo my X I think that I will be reinventing the wheel. I spent a lot of money and got nothing for it, and with the turbo I think that I will get into the same rut as the racecar. If I find a newer X for cheap I might re think the project, but mine is a 76 and here in Canada they are becoming hens teeth. So, I will sell the turbo and buy a nice suspension and redo the interior. But I am still working on the fiberglass project, maybe this is the route to go.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I was planning on rebuilding the motor, what are the parts availibility in the U.S like? I really don't feel like ordering from the East coast.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

The gasket set supplied for a tranny rebuild is good and complete. The vendor catalogs listed on this site also have a good selection of gaskets. As an alternative... have you ever made your own ? Very easy task really. The asbestos donut type gaskets might be difficult to produce but the basic flat pattern are pretty easy. Have you looked closely at a paper or cork type gasket ? Not much are they. I sometimes use inking type transfer from the workpiece to the gasket stock. But a better method is using a polished type flyweight ball peen for transference. The newer composited gasket stock I believe is far superior to most types of gaskets sold in kits. I've seen gaskets made out of singleweight card stock that worked just fine. I supposed it worked in a pinch. A good sharp hole punch is an asset to the task along with a sharp razor of course. And also the use of sealers is up to ones own discretion. Who says gasket material cannot be laminated to arrive at a desired thickness ? Phenolic material can be worked pretty easy also if the application requires the isolation properties of phenolic. The lack of availability of ready made gaskets should not stop your project(s). Neopreme/butyl materials are a cinch. Good luck, lezesig '79 X 1/9<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
