1981 X1/9
Note this may be considered a commercial post.
Hi folks. With pride I present my newest project. It was tougher than I thought it was going to be.
Yup.....Fiat X1/9 exhaust hangers. The original mild steel ones usually rusted out pretty quick, or were sawn through by the exhaust springs.
These are used in all X1/9 North American models from '75 to '89. And some other market X1/9s with a right side exit tailpipe like Australia and Japan. Not used on euro X1/9s with a left exiting tailpipe.
These are laser cut right here in Canada from 2mm 304 stainless steel, and precision bent. A very faithful reproduction of the original shape - you can see an old original in the background of one of the pics - except I added material in the place were the originals always failed. You can see that where the red pen points to.
Sold as a set of left ( the smaller one ) and right side. In stock for immediate shipment.
Only $95 Canadian per set plus shipping.
For my USA friends, only $75 US per set if you pay me in US funds via Paypal. Shipping these to the USA is only $8 US per set.
I'd be happy to post them anywhere in the world, but outside of North America due to high shipping costs and slow delivery from Canada, the good folks at Eurosport UK have agreed to stock them:
They currently have - limited - stock on hand. Pricing from them is the same as direct from me.
For those of you you might think these are a little pricy.....new mild steel ones from Fiat have long been NLA. Some of our vendors sell used ones for a similar price. Someone in the far east was selling reproductions, at a similar price to mine, but not for a few years now. Those of you in the manufacturing sector will likely know of supply chain issues for raw materials like stainless....and that the price of raw stainless has almost tripled in the last two years !!
At the start of this project....I did get quotes from places able to make them complete from scratch. Those quotes were staggering !!
So my buddy Bruce volunteered ( well okay I volunteered him ) to model them and draw them up in Autocad and produce digital files that could just be handed to a laser shop to have them cut. Bruce doesn't even own an X1/9 but does have a 1st gen Civic race car like I think a couple of other folks here, and seems to think you lot are a good bunch - better then on the Civic forums. Thanks Bruce !!
Then the bending.....arggh....quotes for that from a bending shop were pretty high....not surprising as each set required 18 unique precision bends. The only feasible solution was to do it myself !! Time to learn a new skill. So bought some bending dies and tooling. Made some jigs and fixtures. After a long learning curve I was able to produce neat, tight, smooth, consistent, accurate, bends. Very happy with the results.
Then my nephew volunteered ( well okay I volunteered him ) to weld the brace on. Got his revenge by insisting I buy him a roll of stainless wire. Ouch. He did a beautiful job. Thanks Chris !!
Thanks for looking. Thanks for your support. Doug
