The photo with the hoods up really got my attention. I would have guessed the Lada would be the car with the odd hood support structure. My 72 124 has the same look as the Lada hood in the photo. I couldn't find a full picture of my hood, but you can see here it doesn't have the square tube frame. I wonder if that square tube frame on the 124 was truly factory, or added to the car at some point in its life during a repair?

Russian steel and no zinc available to mix with the steel is what I have always heard... The lack of zinc was the issue with American 70's cars as well...
