Gearbox oil capacity

BTW, if the oil temp goes over 250 degrees F in a race rotary for any significant amount of time.. the rotor housing seals will die which is essentially the same as a blown head gasket on a piston motor. Where the oil temperature is measured also matters, on the LeMons rotary X, the oil temp is measured at the oil pump outlet or oil system's main input. If the oil temp there reads over 200 degrees F.. worry, worry lots. Oil does over 50% of the heat removal in a rotary or why proper oil temps is a non-option. Most folks who try to race a rotary at LeMons grenade them due to over cooking the oil which results in a dead rotary in very short time.

Current oil cooling system in the Rotary X is complex, it has a dry sump with coolant to oil heat exchanger and large oil cooler, thermostat and over 3 gallons of oil.
