I have a hayes manual to show routing but thats all it shows. Question I have is does the cable have to be a specific length and what is that length? And does it have to be swagged at the ends? I don't want to take the other side apart and have a real mess! I've routed it about 10 #%!&ing times and keep coming up short on length. I swapped out the power windows on my car for manual ones - with a bit of help from Kyle it went well.

Looking with your eyes at the way the other one is strung together will do you more good than hours of looking at that Haynes manual diagram, and it is really not too hard to get the panel off.
I agree that you should buy & replace the entire crank assembly. They come with the cable wound in, preattached and in the proper length. Last time I bought one brand new for less than $20. Installed in in my '75 in the parking lot in 10 minutes. It really is worth buying the whole assembly! You can find them from most friendly Fiat parts vendors, but since they are (or were) near my house, I bought mine at Aurora Auto Wrecking in Seattle. They carry 'em new!
