I've got my '76 torn apart in my garage getting ready to strip and repaint. Having trouble getting the chrome strip that is on the doors near the window. The interior piece came off fine, but the exterior piece (the one that has the weatherstripping) won't come off towards the front of the door. I was able to get it loose towards the rear of the door without much problem.
Any ideas? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I use a wide and thin gasket scraper to protect the paint on the door, then a wide wood chisel (bevel down) on top of that to gently pry against the chrome strip. It snaps onto a series of barbed clips on the pinch welded seam, and comes off easily if you pry next to each clip. I think you can see the clips if you push the rubber seal away from the rolled down window.
There are no screws holding that piece...unlike the interior piece which has a tiny screw buried in the fuzzy trim at the rearmost end. That screw is impossible to get at with the exterior chrome strip in place. I guess you found that?
