Ideas for a cup holder

Now, I know this has probably been discussed before but I recently picked up one of those telescoping cup holders that VW uses at the wreckers and thought it would be cool. Not sure just how I would integrate it though..I’d love to see what other members have done…please share. 😊

If you do a search, I think an Audi one was placed in the cubby hole in front of the shifter.

I have to say that there have certainly been times I wished for a cup holder but considering how spirited I often drive the X and the effort it takes to drive a car with manual brakes, steering and shifting, I have never looked for a way to install a cup holder.

I've seen an old ashtray modified into a cup holder.

Take your favorite cup holder and weld it to the face area of the ash tray frame.
The ash tray part plugs in and holds the cup holder,
And you take it out when not needed.

At least, it works with old VWs.
Maybe the X has room there?

There's been a couple of good older threads on the forum discussing options for cup holders. Try the "Google Xweb" search function to find them. ;)

If you’re handy with a Dremel and some patience, you can get a pretty factory look
That’s kindve what i was thinking…although there’s some wasted space right in between the seats…🤔 I remember seeing an armrest made by Henk awhile back..

I did a quick search on the Google Xweb engine and this is the first response that came up. It has the wood one I remembered:

Not a fan of food or liquids in my car so not planning on adding the cup holder but what I’ve done is added centre arm rest which you could quite easily add a cup holder by using a hole saw on the top compartment to hold a drink. When lids closed you wouldn’t know it’s there.

Plenty of inserts to drop into your hole to hold your drink.

I use one of these "wedge" cup holders most days. I usually have it hanging over the passenger seat, but with a passenger on board it can be flipped to hang over the parking brake lever. It is good for loose items, but the cup areas are too shallow IMHO, which makes it marginal for any drink taller than a 12oz can. It is very secure in an X since the seats are so tight to the center tunnel, but I wish I could find one with deeper drink holders. :(

This cup holder is definitely nice for holding items that used to live in the late model's center console bin. I lost full use of the center bin to A/F and oil pressure gauges. The items in the center bin would slide out under hard acceleration, so I guess the cup holder is an improvement on that issue.

That’s great! I’m not familiar with the “Google Xweb engine” which explains why I couldn’t find anything…you learn something new every day if you’re looking.. 😁

Mike, I'm referring to this one:

It seems to work much better than the forum's built-in "search" feature. :)

I made a fancy travellin' box for long trips on my own. A shoe box with a hole to hold a tall drink bottle and a larger rectangular opening for a bag of snacks. It sits nicely on the passenger seat and was really inexpensive to create. :)

That’s funny. I have something very similar, but not for food or drink, to hold my wallet, phone, iPad, glasses and other junk. Otherwise, everything always goes flying in every direction.

I’ve seen that armrest/storage before but don’t remember the vendor? Is it Henk?
