Before installation I made sure the pistons were halfway down (or up) in their bores. I marked the crank pulley and oil pan to make sure that it wasn't moved. What's wrong with checking the valve clearance while the crank is in this position buy turning the cam pulley (without the timing belt of coarse). After adjustments, if needed, Position the cam pulley on it's mark and then rotate the crankshaft to it's TDC position on # 4 cyl. Anyone ever done it this way? Then to you get a more accurate torque reading on the rear head bolts without the cam box in place. Is it worth it ? I figure one could examine the cylinder walls, kinda check for piston to wall clearance, and look at the face and seal surface(s) of the valves at the same time.
Too much ADDITIONAL bother going through the routine of pulling the head just for a valve clearance check ?
Studs typically frozen ? Water jackets and there fluid levels ?
Any thoughts-ideas?
