Threaded Fasteners and Stiffness of Bolted Joints:

While the auto industry has moved into torque to yield threaded fastening systems that include torque and angle torqued. There are trade offs involved both good and bad. Keep in mind, joints using threaded fasteners act as a tension spring. Ideally tension devices should not be used to locate jointed parts, this is the function of pins or dowels.
