It turned out to be an old thermostat rubber gasket that was left in there by the PO and was ingested into the coolant passage restricting the flow of coolant. What next!!!!!!!!!!!!?. The cylinder bores look pretty good but do you guys have any suggestions on things I should to them. Like removing that carbon lip at the top of the bore and lightly scrubbing the walls? Also I'm going to replace the snail mount. I think I can do it after removing the water pump and tensioner pulley. Any suggestions as what I could do with all that top end out of the way would appreciated. Now is a good time to do a new insulation job to. You could always do a light hone to clean up the holes a bit.
The suggestion
Retap all the holes and for gods sake, spend the extra money and put a felpro no-retourqe head gasket on the car.

I'm going to re- torque it anyway (see discussion with Gillis about 8 threads back). Some say back the studs and bolts out a couple of turns and re-torque to original value. Any thoughts on this?
