The price on X1/9s in North America completely bottomed out in the mid to late '80s. Dealers would have had a hard time GIVING them away at the end! (Incidentally, that's why so many just have sat in storage for a decade and are coming on the market in recent years, or that's my theory anyway)...
Personally, I have really started seeing a bigger price shift over the last couple of years. Even the "average" (if there is such) X1/9 prices are really getting stronger.
When SeaX first came online in the summer of '98, anyone around here selling an X in "average" condition would have been laughed out of town if the price had more than 2 zeros behind it! Now the "average" price for such Xs is running between $1,500 and $3,000, with finer examples starting to fetch what just years ago would have been insanely unattainable prices!
Even since then, let's see - in early '99 (was it?) we saw the 2 basically brand new (less than 150 miles) late Bertones go for $5,500 and $6,000. Then we saw the six come out of a warehouse and sell for even more. Then there was the one that was posted in our very own FS&W forum - which even I said was, "never going to sell at that price" - and ended up raking in $12,500!! Right here!! Even the damn bone stock gold '79 that sold in Bellevue went for around $7000 didn't it?
And now this extremely low mile NA spec '88 on ebay! It's already over $9,000 and there's still 3 and a half days left to bid on the sucker!!

I am starting to ask myself, am I happy X1/9s are appreciating in value in NA finally?? I thought I would be happy that such a badass (and relatively forgotten in NA) little car is finally getting due credit. Problem is, next time I go to buy one, I AM GONNA NEED CREDIT!

The car has only 19,000 miles as is mechanically sound and quite clean overall. What few people that have shown interest have balked at my $3000 bottom line. Steve Furst of Fiat Auto Service down here finds the market to be so soft on X1/9s he frequently turns down requests to buy X1/9s for very low prices. He buys (and resells at considerable profit) 124 spyders on a weekly basis.
I think that exceptionally low mileage Xs will command increasingly higher prices due to their rarity. At least here in Southern California, a mid quality X is still very affordable and easy to find.

The car has only 19,000 miles as is mechanically sound and quite clean overall. What few people that have shown interest have balked at my $3000 bottom line. Steve Furst of Fiat Auto Service down here finds the market to be so soft on X1/9s he frequently turns down requests to buy X1/9s for very low prices. He buys (and resells at considerable profit) 124 spyders on a weekly basis.
I think that exceptionally low mileage Xs will command increasingly higher prices due to their rarity. At least here in Southern California, a mid quality X is still very affordable and easy to find.
