Intermittent Wipers - Yes? No? Maybe?

Wiper wiring mod, BWM...well all the X wire mods and LED lights everywhere including the headlights makes a huge difference to all the wiper speeds. And you don't have to choose between Light, heat or wipers anymore.
Is it simple enough to change the old headlights to LED lights, mainly to save on amperage? I figure the old headlights draw about 4 amps per light? What headlights do you use now?

Anzo projectors with led bulbs. I wired the italian right out of it and did every mod possible. Even wired a push button to take the extra power off the ignition switch. Everything is better, safer and runs cooler.

I replaced all the bulbs in my 128 except the GEN bulb, with LED's(headlights included) plus Ran them through relays + the wipers as well. The difference is night and day, (or rather, night INTO day!) Everything is So bright and if all the bulbs were on at the same time it is less amp draw than a single halogen headlamp. Also, the wipers are now fast and faster, not slow and slower!

Replacement H4 LED and other format bulbs are now an automatic MOT failure here in the UK and therefore illegal to use. They cause too much scattered light with standard reflectors and the glare can blind on coming traffic. I think complete LED replacement light units may be legal though.

So replacing the entire enclosure is ok, but just the bulb, not ok?

Your in Cali not the UK. It is important to clock LED bulbs properly for your headlamp and re-aim then. That is why most are two piece. Most people just just put them in and they could be completely upside down sending all the light into the eyes of oncoming traffic rather than down to the road.

Regardless of where I am, I HATE cars/trucks with blinding headlights, so, I take that into consideration...

Mine were complete units, but you are correct in that they still must be aimed properly... It's important to select an led bulb that places the light emitting element at the same distance from the reflector as the incandescent filiment was. This ensures that the beam pattern is maintained as designed...

Also did my own version of the BWMod.... 6 Gauge replaced the 10 that was there..

That goes straight from the main Battery cable to the junction box that feeds everything.. It replaced the brown wire top right of the junction box. Feeds the fuse box (forgive the untidyness, that is an old 'before' pic)

I’d love to have speedy wipers and less draw with headlights, but this relay/rewiring sounds complex?

My 74 X US model does not have intermittant wipers.
However, my newly aquired 1969 128 does!
Strange.
The intermittant feature is really useful. I would like to add it to the X.
Does anyone know if the wiper motor is different or if it is some sort of relay that does it?

Ah, I found it.
S is the wiper motor.
S1 is the intermittant module.

There is a nice relay set up on Ladapower to add variable intermittent just like the older VW system

Flick it on for one wipe, turn it off for some number of seconds turn it back on and viola, intermittent. The number of seconds ‘off’ gives the interval.

I saw that on their site. But I did not look close enough to see how it worked or exactly what is included. Does it seem to be easily adaptable to the X? Not that I need it - or wipers at all for that matter. :D

Speaking of the Lada site, I might start a list of all the possible parts they offer that are good for the X. Every time I look I see more.

It does appear it will be easy to adapt, some wires to switch and so on.
