x1/8 & x1/9..
x1:8 & x1:9.png

Previous to this, never seen this image before. Yet nicely illustrates the common origins of the x1/8_x1/20 and x1/9. All interested should keep in mind this family of Italian mid-engine cars came from this small group of designers-engineers. Enzo Ferrari was not convinced the mid-engine chassis layout was viable-effective-worthy. It was the Brits (Jack Brabham, Colin Chapman and ..) that proved just how effective the mid-engine chassis layout could be. It was Ferdinand Porsche's Auto Union mid engine GP cars that began the entire mid engine adventure. What made those mid engine Auto Union GP cars less successful than they could have been.. Swing Axles in the rear which made them extremely difficult to drive and caused many design changes over the story of those Auto Union GP cars. It was the Brits & Italians and to some degree the French that tamed the mid engine chassis concept and made it work in the remarkable ways of today.

It was a golden age of mid-engine car design and production in Italy... and it was only the Italians that were doing this at that time. To this day, no other Nation has even tried to do what this groups of Italians did.... they got SO much of what they designed and engineered SO correct and proper. Folks can be critical of the details, yet in the bigger picture, this group of designers and engineers achieve something very, very, very special and has remained special to this day.
