I tried the search section, but I couldn't locate the part number for the K&N Filter that replaces the OEM.
Do you may have it?

Thanks and best regards, Gilles

It's the right size to fit on the end of the airflow meter, or fits perfectly right in the area the canister used to be if mounted on the elbow.

Don't try to find it in the catalog, it's a pain. There is an RU-1380 in the catalog that doesn't sound at all right. It was hard to find any reference to the R-1380 at all, which is the right one.

I don't know if it helped at all, but it certainly sounds faster!

BTW - if you're looking for a K&N to put inside the canister, this isn't it.

I already have the one that you are describing "cone shaped" I wanted the one Mac got for his car.

I believe it has an offset center mount (the filter's body is not centered with the mounting hole) also it's considerably bigger than the cone shaped filter.

But also I was considering on using the rubber elbow, and perhaps a piece of PVC pipe to relocate the filter further down on the engine (closer to the fresh air flow of the side vent)

Did you notice an increase of noise just by mounting the filter on the elbow? Cool!

I got the advice for mounting it on the elbow at Mac's party, and yes you hear it alot more. The elbow/filter is turned down at about a 45 degree angle. I think Mac has his right on the AFM.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

For even more great sound, remove the plastic duct from the side vent. It gives even more room down there as well. Good luck,

Is the engine portion of the side air duct (from the outer body) the one that you are suggesting to remove?

I always thought that this side vent was only one molded piece, I have to take a closer look.

Hmm..this mod also may be allowing more fresh (colder air) into the filter, sounds pretty good!

My car is already loud with the exhaust combination and I usually are in the 4500-5000 range on the freeway
so noise is not a main concern.

However, I wouldn't mind more howling noises from the intake!

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Hi all!

Well I have been out of the action again this past week so am only now able to add my 2 cents to this thread. Steven L is correct, the K&N that I use and recommend is R-1380. Most places that carry K&Ns will tell you that number doesn't exist or that they can't order it. It is because this number is not listed in association with any particular make/model. It appears way in the back of the K&N order book under "special applications" or similar. Don't let them put you off, just tell them (if all else fails) to call the K&N order line and ask for an R-1380.

Yes, I have mine mounted directly to the mouth of the airflow meter. I like the offset attachment point of the R-1380 because it allows you to mount the thing so close to the firewall and yet have a much larger cone at the same time. As mentioned it would not be hard to put it on an elbow or tube to mount it away from the afm if you like.

And if you are interested in keeping a stock look (i.e.: not into the idea of ditching the stock air cleaner assembly) you can still get a K&N filter, shaped just like the stock filter, to go inside the air cleaner can. I can't recall the part # for that one offhand but it is the one you get if you ask for the standard K&N replacement for a FI X1/9 so would not be hard to track down
