The thing works!

Now I just have to pick up another one as per Tony's suggestion. I'm on a role!

Thanks to "Anonymous" on Aug 6th ("check the ground wire"). That post turned out to be the golden ticket!

I scrubbed off the little ground hub and all its connections inside the driver's side headlight motor bay, and after some elbow grease and some WD40, the thing kicked on at 190!!!

I gotta admit, I didn't think such a simple fix was gonna work, so you can imagine the rush of shear surprise and pleasure when it did!

So... THE QUESTION:

Any suggestions on how to keep connections like these that may get exposure to rain (i.e. through the headlight opening), from corroding so fast?

Wanna maybe coat that big ground strap in the back with something too!

What should I apply to them to protect them from surface rust and corrosion? Oil? Grease? Vasoline? A magic product? Prayers and blessings? What?

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Anthony, Tectyl market their light wax-based anti-corrosion product in aerosol packs, complete with additional spray heads for tiny crevices (e.g. body seams) and a flexible wand for spraying hard to get at areas like in the headlamp motor compartments. I find this stuff excellent for exactly what you are describing - putting an anti-corrosive coating over all the electric connections in those places on exxy's where you need baby's hands to get at! Going by the multi-language instructions on the Tectyl aerosols available here in NZ, I am sure it's sold internationally. Try it, mate - it's great stuff! cheers, ian<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Gilles, this stuff IS great, particularly now that it is available in aerosol packs. It was for ages only available in bulk drums for use by car assemblers, panelbeaters, body repair shops, etc. But these aerosol cans are really handy for us (crazy?) classic car nutcases. Quite reasonably priced also, even here in expensive NZ! Its sprays on in an opaque liquid form and then sets into a good light brown waxy film.
