New Engine Installed

Mark

FIATFREAK
This is the third engine since I restored the car in 2006. Couldn't make up my mind. This time I went with a 2 liter, 10:1 pistons, 35/75 cam, 4-2-1 header, Beta fuel injection, lightened flywheel, fully balanced.

I originally planned to install the Volumex supercharged engine and tranny I imported from England and converted to fuel injection, but never completed the Megasquirt conversion. I then built and installed a sweat 1.8 similar to the 2 liter, but I mismatched it with the Volumex tranny. All the wrong gears.

Looks Great! Good attention to detail.

A couple of questions... where are your thermo-time switch and AAV mounted, and what car does the fuel rail come from, Spider?

The thermo-time switch is mounted in the thermostat housing at the front of the head. I mounted the AAV to the back of the head above the tranny to shorten the hose lengths. The fuel rail is from the Beta, turned 180 degrees to clear the distributor. I would have used the cam end distributor, but I already had these cams from another project. You can just make out the AAV in this picture:

Here's the engine in my black car for comparison:

One thing I love about your cars.......

your attention to detail and work are truly amazing. All the installs you have done look factory and done the way it should have been done from the beginning. Keep up the great work, we all need something to inspire to!

Warren

Thank you Warren for the complements. I've always had an eye for detail. I remember building model rockets, N gauge rail road sets and 1/48 scale WW2 german military vehicles as a kid. I'm sure they would take up less space! (no wonder I like small cars)

Ah, now I see it.

I see it. I followed the example of your black car for my conversion.

What kind of mileage do you get in your black car? I got about 25mpg on my last 200 mile trip. I think I need to upgrade my distributor and check to see if I have non-stock cams. I was expecting more in the 28-32mpg range.

I also want to check the spray pattern of my injectors.

Still have the Volumex? Does it need a new home? :innocent:

I have a lot of stuff I need to sell, the 850, the X1/9, at least one Scorpion, a Yamaha SRX 600, the Volumex engine and tranny, several guitars... Just haven't had time to get it done.

As far as mileage, yours sounds about right. Maybe a little low depending on the drive. I rarely drive mine on the freeway or with an attitude towards mileage. Usually on back roads like I stole it.

Mark,

Any close up pictures on how you modified the throttle shaft/linkage?

Thanks,
Ralph

Wow! She's a real beauty!

Sadly I entered into a 'no motorcycles' agreement with the wife many years ago... There are a few bikes I constantly find myself doing searches on eBay and Craigslist... The SRX600 and Ducati Paso's...

tranny

Do you still have the tranny? That one has the tall final drive doesn't it? I'd be interested in buying it if it's forsale. I have imported a monte tranny, which has a slightly taller ratio than the stock scorpion. It's still not a great ratio for highway crusing, so a taller ratio would be great. Are you interested in a monte tranny?

I have it and it's been converted to work in the Scorpion. This required complete dissassembly and replacement of several key parts. It wouldn't be cheap, and the shipping I'm sure would be an issue too.

Looks nice. I think you have bad time with engines as it is your third one or you change it after some time..
