And last Thursday when I finally got it legal again...

Had a photo op I couldn't pass up today. A couple of friends came over to help me move some equipment into my shop. One of them drove his McLaren MP4-12C Project Alpha (1 of 6). We lined up the cars and presto! I'll probably never have that chance again to have my Fiats in such cool company on the lawn!

While I would definitely cross the lot to look at the McLaren, it's probably not the one I would want to drive home. :)
It's fun to get the friends together.

The dealership I bought my X1/9 at in 1974 is now a McLaren dealership (McLaren San Francisco). It is right at an intersection so I usually take a good look when I'm stopped at the light which is usually red. When they opened, the MP4-12C was the only new road car they had. Some accused it of having a "clown face" when they first came out although the paint job in Charlie's photo pretty well disguises it. I talked to a guy who bought one when they were new and he told me the reason he got it was that his wife had the last say in supercar shopping and she liked the smooth ride from the active suspension.

Some older pics of a few of the Fiats I’ve owned, built or raced… The Beach had a 903cc with a PBS eight-port on it. The 1000GT Bialbero set a land speed record for stock cars at Bonneville. The 124’s were, well, FAST! The 850’s were fun!

Seems to be a ~long~ running history here 😊

Fiat 130.... with Lamprdi V6 that was intended for the Lancia MonteCarlo 😊

Actually, the Lampredi SOHC V6 was based on two belt-driven 128 motors in a V with the end cylinders lopped off. Initially at 2800cc, it was enlarged in 1971 to 3265cc.

Designed for big torque (185 lb ft in 3.2 liter guise) rather than horsepower, it was originally installed in the 1969 130 Berlina, well before the X/20 got started.

It did make an appearance in highly modified form in the Giro d'Italia special, the 031. More info here: https://131abarth.com/031-abarth/

Not a lot "wrong" with that. The Lampredi SOHC is an excellent design in many ways..
In real world driving and corner exit aspects of moto sports, torque is more important than hp... that old, "hp sells cars, torque wins races" applies here..

Before the 031 was this..
1973, Abarth X1:20 proto.jpg

The folks at Alfa Romeo did similar by applying two Jano 4 cylinder bottom ends to make up a V8.. Alfa Romeo folks grafted two Spica injection pumps to make a 8 cylinder injection pump..

Thanks for the link to the 031 write up. That car doesn't get much exposure to us. It was certainly the most brutish modified production car that Abarth developed.

Yep, while I haven’t worked on an 8C, I’ve driven one. Worked on several Montreals, I like the Spica system,

Spica injection is good, few really understand how to properly service/set them up. There was a time when there were lots of Montreals on the used market for zilch. Similar were Fiat Dino (majority were canalized for the Dino motor to be installed into a Ferrari Dino with a grenade_ed motor) Fiat Dino Coupe (Bertone, rare today)...

Yep, I bought a Fiat Dino Coupe for $7K, sold it for $8500 and thought I was a real wheeler dealer! It was a 2.4, too. Many Montreals for less than $20K. Of course, I had a local dealer offer me a choice of two flares and chairs Dino 246's or a Lusso for $27.5K. At the time, I was driving a 131 that I bought for $800!

Hi guys. I have a few toys myself ;)
68 Moretti Sportiva, 76 MK1 Golf, 60 beetle, my brother's a nice 595 replica, and just behind that fence, a 2014 Scudo...(plus a newer vwgolf but that does not count)
..and I live in Dracula's land, in Europe 🧛‍♀️
I do most of my repairs myself, I am a self taught everything. welder, bodywork guy, electrician.. you name it. Not always good at what I do, but I strive to do the best I can. The Moretti was a race car in it's life, hence now it has horrible crashes and bumps and bruises everywhere. Mostly 1cm thick filler on some areas, the goal is getting to 1-2 mm maximum when it's done.

Looks like a fun garage! Love the Mk1. I had one of the last year Mk1 GTIs (US market). Zippy and practical. 98mph downhill with a tail wind. :)
