If everything is staying on, run a test light from the switch wire of your starter solenoid to ground (located on solenoid). The light should always turn on when the key is in the start position. If it does not, it most likely means the switch, or the wiring to the solenoid. It may also mean the wiring connections on the back of the switch are loose (disconnect them and crimp the connectors a teensy bit more to ensure contact, clean them off, and reattatch).
If the light is turning on, it means the problem lies with your solenoid/starter.
Since jiggling the key seems to affect your plight, I'm guessing it's your switch, or the wiring going to it.
Oh, another thing it could be. Do X's have clutch down safety switches (i.e. car won't turn over if clutch is not down)? If they do, it could also be that.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
