Preparing For Dallara Body Kit

Just in case someone didn't get it (probably because you are younger than 45 or didn't live in North America) "BUT I'M FEELING MUCH BETTER NOW" is a quote from the old TV series "Night court". It was coming from a man, released out of a Mental institution, with a wide insane smile in it's face while shouting that! 🤪

Daniel...

I loved that show... and Markie Post.. and my favorite episode was the time they got stranded in Alaska and the Eskimo Chief called John Larrouquette "Dan-Dan Fielding"!

Then there is Harry Anderson's infatuation with Mel Torme' and Selma Diamond as the Bailiff... WHAT A CAST! Same goes for WKRP in Cincinnati and the great Turkey Giveaway. (Who knew our modern-day turkeys couldn't fly?)

Thanks for the memories!

Posted this door shimming in another thread - just adding it here as part of the Dallara build

noting this post - should have been in this thread, I couldn't find it.

I bought a new BERTONE emblem for this lid from Henk Martins last Sept, and I put it in such a safe place I can't find it ANYWHERE!!!!!!

2.4 I-vtec emblem will go where X1/9 sits here

Also this post should have been in here

Tomorrow I'l be installing the lid & wing, cutting the vinyl for the airfoils, and figuring out the dimensions for the "DALLARA" lettering that needs to go on the foils

Many, many thanks to John Ball for his work on this, and the ICSUNONOVE lettering

Good idea to use a stock lid even if a little bit heavy. Having a glass fiber lid robust and straight to carry the stands and wing was a PITA.

Yeah - besides the support, my main concern was that the fiberglass lid wasn't going to hold up next to the new header.

Put the lid and wing together today, added the vinyl to the foils, and then the tape stripe across the trunk & uprights.

Steel lid required shorter offset bump stops

going to take some getting used to - I already smacked my head a couple times closing the lid due to the rear overhang

added tape stripe to continue from sides, had to stagger the inner stripe since these uprights aren't flush with the rear edge as with the original design

As usually a very good job Hussein. I think this was the missing piece on your car to make it complete.
The attack angle on the wing looks very small? Is it adjustable to create more down force if needed?
For road performance I noticed an improvement with the wing, but fuel consumption has increased a little bit. I am currently working on a front spoiler/splitter to balance the down force.

Goes really well with the rest of the car.
Flipping back a page and seeing your car with the little ducktail, it looks to me like there has been something missing all along.

Very nice, well done !!

The attack angle on the wing looks very small?
It almost looks like it's angled up a bit at the front? But that might be the perspective in the pics.

Talking about another element to add still......
I wonder how a snorkel scoop over the engine cover would look with the Dallara wing? I realize the Dallara's did not have one but it might work?

I think I need to angle it forward so that it's either level or slightly downhill at the front edge. It doesn't come with alternate holes in the spoiler legs, so I'll have to drill or elongate the existing forward mount holes to play with it.

No snorkel. That will definitely kill my rear view, and just too much going on.

Today I swapped out the dead (new) clock & installed a 52mm Volvo one I had

PXL_20220530_181800814.jpg

Mesh melted today (install post) - 15-20min drive & the header took out sections - literally dripped. I'll have to get SS mesh to replace it. Won't match the grille anymore.

Dallara lettering ordered. Two sizes, not sure which will look better. Can't go longer than 12" width, also need to keep the proportions as designed, so no stretching the height relative to width.

I purchased this metal mesh from Home Depot. I just painted it black.View attachment 62293View attachment 62294

Hey Ron - I had used something akin to that in the past, before switching to the current mesh. I want a larger aperture, flattened & thicker material. I've ordered a sheet of SS expanded & flattened (haven't found that in box stores) mesh .75" diamond, 1/16" thickness, 24" x 48" sheet. Going to 1/8", the price goes over 200, and will be heavier than I want. 3/32" would be ideal, but can't find that.

Redrilled the spoiler after work, and reset the angle to a marginal downward tilt

only other thing I had time for was to start putting some layers of touch up on the door jamb & door edge. Looks good from a couple feet :) I'll have to carefully sand that back to level it once its hardened a couple days, then repeat with clear coat
