My 85 X has developed a problem somewhere in the injection system. The car started to buck and stumble a bit when idling and became really noticeable during acceleration. I disconnected the oxygen sensor and it smoothes out, runs pretty good. Thinking I had a bad sensor I replaced this but the problem continues?

Owner had tried everything he could think of, with no solution. His son peers into the engine bay, finds a dangling vacuum hose, reattaches it, and voila!! [FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Who knows really, but my first guesses would be for you to thoroughly check every hose connection on the big ribbed air intake hose (from airflow meter to intake plenum) especially paying attention to the hose connected from beneath. If any of these connections are loose just to the point of being slightly sloppy, engine movement and vibrations can cause the symptom you describe as small amounts of unmetered air enter the system at the leak. Also worth examining would be the large rectangular plug on top of the ECU (brain) in the spare tire compartment. They are notorious for gathering moisture, which can cause all kinds of crazy intermittent faults, and if the plug is only properly clipped down on one end (instead of both) the make/break contact can also cause such symptoms. Just a couple of blind guesses to add to the pot. Please let us know what you find (or don't!)

Owner had tried everything he could think of, with no solution. His son peers into the engine bay, finds a dangling vacuum hose, reattaches it, and voila!! [FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Who knows really, but my first guesses would be for you to thoroughly check every hose connection on the big ribbed air intake hose (from airflow meter to intake plenum) especially paying attention to the hose connected from beneath. If any of these connections are loose just to the point of being slightly sloppy, engine movement and vibrations can cause the symptom you describe as small amounts of unmetered air enter the system at the leak. Also worth examining would be the large rectangular plug on top of the ECU (brain) in the spare tire compartment. They are notorious for gathering moisture, which can cause all kinds of crazy intermittent faults, and if the plug is only properly clipped down on one end (instead of both) the make/break contact can also cause such symptoms. Just a couple of blind guesses to add to the pot. Please let us know what you find (or don't!)
