Thank the lord. Anyways, I have a couple of questions as I tear her down getting ready for the body shop. If you can answer any or all, thanks:

1. Rear trunk- I pulled the tray, and removed first
layer of fiberglass. Low and behold, RUST!. It
appears that below the trunk floor, there is
another layer of glass. How do I get to it? Am I
going to have to pull out the sawz-all and remove
the false floor?

2. Rear window chrome. this is the chrome strip that
runs around the rear 'roll cage'. I tugged on it,
and it didn't come off easily, I don't want to
break it as it is in excellent shape, and I want to
re-use it.

3. What brilliant engineer decided to rivet on the
trim strip on the side of the car?

4. On the rear, there is a metal grille covering the
exhaust. I see bolts that held something on below
it, what was it? I need it.

5. Who builds a garage, and doesn't run power out to
it? Apparantly the PO of my house. Anyone know
how many lights and power tools I can run off a
150' cord before the fire dept. shows up? I live
in a small town with a volunteer dept. If I have
a fire, the dept. will get here just in time for
the marshmellow roast!

Ha. Thanks for your help if you can. I am putting the wife to bed, and then I'm back out to the garage. I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'80 X about ready to go to the body shop.

P.S. I have a confession to make. I sat in the car and pretended to drive it, going through all the gears, and even making the noise of an italian engine (even though there is no battery in it, and it is up on jack stands). I was driving a windy coastal road. I don't know, but I think it was about the time I drank the 4th beer that I smoked a Vette!

The false floor is already out (unless yours is different than mine). There is a lot of glass in there, and my trunk was really rusty too. I cut it all out, and made an alumnium panel with no insulation. It's removable, which gives me easy access to some of the tighter spots at the back of the motor and gives good access to the exhaust.

This is the only piece of trim that I didn't remove from the car - I couldn't figure out how to do it either. Maybe someobody else can help?

>3. What brilliant engineer decided to rivet on the

Don't know, but I bet his name ended in a vowel!

Seriously, this strip is only on later cars... Kyle may be able to offer some tips on removal, as he took his off - my car didn't have one.

Do you mean the metal panel held on with four bolts? It's in the lower pane of the picture you can see here:

If yes, good luck finding one on the east coast! I looked at a bunch of junkers and never found one better than the one I had. After lots of hours of brazing, skincoating, sanding, and painting, I re-used my original one. It isn't perfect, but I haven't found a better one. Maybe one of the west coast guys can step up and help?

Hope this helps,
