I can still use a pair of pliers to pull the cable and open the trunk, but its kind of a hassle. Is there an easy fix. It must be a common problem because the same thing happened to my previous X.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->It is a bit of a pain because access is tight, but not difficult to do. Buy a new cable (IAP, Vicks, or any of the other X parts sources) they are only 10 or 12 bucks, so do the engine compartment at the same time - and maybe buy a spare to keep around... it's a common problem.

Take the new cable out of the sleeving, and feed it through the existing one (unless the old sleeve is damaged).

Also be advised that there is a release for the engine compartment in the trunk, and one in the engine compartment for the trunk.

I've done both of mine, and they both open much easier now... these cables tend to stretch a bot with time, so they may need to be readjusted at some point.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out,

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->In most Xs, there is also an 'emergency release' for the rear trunk in the engine compartment in case you can't get to the old cable. I have rigged up a similar item for the engine release on my Scorpion (I think Xs have one too, can't remember).

It is located on the driver's side, along the frame rail. It's nothing more than a single strand cable with a plastic loop on it.

Obviously, Fiat knew there could be problems with this design.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Hi Doc - hey, where is the cable hidden in the trunk that opens the engine cover on my 1978 1300 X. I have located the wire cable in the engine compartment that opens the trunk - I thought it was something a P.O. had installed (pretty flimsy!) Would like to find the emergency engine cover release though, or find out where it should go from the trunk to the eng. compartment lock. ian<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
