Scorpion Article

Thanks very much! I've been getting many notes in email from readers with Scorpion experience, which has been fun. Here's one that I'll share here without the sender's name for privacy, hope he doesn't mind...

"We once sold them in Dallas at Ewing Buick Fiat.

Or should I say we stocked them. Until the very end.

The AC units provided by Fiat never worked right in Texas heat. The average window sticker of those in our inventory was just over $11,000 and carried right at $2,500 in mark up.

At a time when a fully equipped Buick Regal was $5,500.

So early in 1977 our Fiat rep Jim Little told us they were discontinuing that model and if we could buy 30 of them at the port they would give us $5,000 credit on the invoice and even on the four units we had in stock for nearly a year.

That’s right, the end game for the Scorpion was a bit over $11,000 list and net cost to the dealership of $4,500.

And when you advertised them for $6,995 all 34 of them sold out in one month.

Thanks again for the memories."
