As I downshifted to third for a hill I felt the gear engage and then the lever went loose! It was complete free play! It was still connected at the mounting point to the transission tunnel, but it had disattached from the shift linkage. So a quick call to my roomie for some tools soon had me sorted out. The only problem now is that I seem to have lost (or maybe never had) the clip that keeps the linkage together. I work at Obert's so I tried checking the listings there, but they don't have any. Chris's suggestion was to scour the parts yards or see if I can make something else work. Does anyone know of anything that will work for sure? I can't really see the ground through the transmission tunnel so I'm not sure if it actualy fell to the ground or wasn't there beforehand or if it's just been lost inside the tunnel to some point that I can't see it. I'd just like to know if anything else will work. It's sort of a desperate situation, as the last autocross of the season is on sunday and I'd really rather not have the whole thing come apart on me half way through a run! Works great though, in fact I got a couple wrenches in there and snugged it up just a little. Between that, and shaving the spacer that holds the lollipop so it's also held snug, my shifter feels great! I do get alot more vibration through it, but the crisp shifting is worth it. Time will tell if anything gets worn/broken because of it, but it's been that way since the tranny rebuild and going fine so far.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

In a pinch, a cotter pin will work. An extra washer will take up the slack and keep the shifter tight. Snag another shifter and rob the circlip from it.
