SOHC Valve Adjustment tool

Translation

I thought he said, "here in Makedonia the valve shim tool for SOHC cost 29 Euros and the head removal tool for rusted studs is 120 Euros". However he did not provide the name of the company / seller for those items.

YugoRacing, please give us more information. Can these be purchased and shipped to the US?

Thanks.

Tony,

In the description on the SnapOn page you referenced, it says that YA8825 is the tool pictured (pliers) and it is to be used with tool YA8825-1 (the wedge tool) for VW's. YA8825-1 is the one I was referring to, however there is no image for that part number:
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...675628&supersede=&store=snapon-store&tool=all

This YA8825-1 wedge tool may be like the Fiat tool, and what they were referring you to.

Also, the pliers tool may work...just differently from what we are used to.

Yep... I saw that later as well...

I just don't know how to respond anymore as folks just aren't thorough enough with their words or fotos... or spelling for that matter.

This medium is hard enough to communicate with as is!

Anyway... I still think that NorCal vender is the way to go... but I'm not in the need of one. Hopefully someone will risk purchasing one to be sure.

Well, I just took delivery of the NorCal tool.

Just in case it actually works. As to whether it actually works or is like the "correct" tool, I have not the slightest idea, since no one has ever posted a photo of the original one at right angles with a scale (just fuzzy oblique shots). So I really can't compare it. And I will not have time to try it for a month or so unless I get lucky.

YugoRacing:
Thank you for the information. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to ship the valve shim tool to the USA? 29 Euros is about $38 USD, so depending on how much shipping is it may be worth looking into getting some...IF the $39 VW tool from No Cal does not work.

RJ:
Well that answers that! Bummer it did not work, but thanks for reporting back to us.

LarryC:
I was hoping you would get the photo you wanted and could make up a bunch of them for all of us. But please let us know how the one you got works.

LARRY, JEFF, I will be happy to ship mine...

to either of you for comparison...

(sorry if my fotos are fuzzy... I can also take more or mic it as well...)

Let me know...

That Ferrari valve shim changing write-up is excellent.

Is there a write-up on XWeb for X1/9's in changing valve shims with photos or video.

I can report that the ZDMAK (NorCal) tool

does not work. Wont go under the cam as it is too curved. Hardened steel, so modification is out of the question. I want my 2 wasted hours back.

LOOK WHAT I FOUND!!!

Just called these folks and they have them in stock. Store is in Northern California.

This should be the equivalent to the the Snap-On S6114 which has been CONFIRMED to work on our engines.

Someone needs to purchase one and confirm. If it fails, there is a 15% restock fee (plus shipping back) and the package cannot be opened. If opened, 25% restock fee... Worth the effort IMHO.

I have an Italian version I can compare it to... Let me know if I can help.
I had listened to this, and purchased s6114 as it was half the cost of the tool on on fiat plus, and I can confirm that it in fact does not work with my 1500. Why does the tool on fiat plus say it replaces s6114? I don't understand why it's being referenced if it's a tool that doesn't work.

Pete, there is an awesome writeup by Dan. It is very detailed. I used this when I did mine last summer. Also, I purchased my valve shim removal tool from MWB last year, but now I don't see them available on their website. They sold a nice hardened version.

I’ve found the tool I bought to do this to be useless TBH. There’s even a cam cover stud in the way on cylinder 1 that stops the tool I have from working. I’d rather undo the cam box to give enough clearance and remove the shims that way.
