Split Pea is home!

True Classic
Runs & drives well, tho' surprisingly gutless, inspite of fresh 1300.
Admitedly, 1500 & glorious burble of dual DCNFs in red sedan has me spoiled.

Cosmetic basics are good, but has a number of issues to deal with.
Pics can't show detail, whether good or bad, so was prepared for unknowns.
Nothing too tough to make right, or that will keep me from driving it!

Shifting is very sweet. Nothing nicer than a new box!
New windshield is new experience in clarity.
Some rattles, buzzes, and more interior noise than sedan.
I'll install Blaupunkt Frankfurt and ignore for now.

Paint needs color sand/buff, which I remembered from last viewing.
Already bladed down some of the runs. They can be made to virtually disappear!
Paint work is what I enjoy most, so unlikely I can resist starting with that.
Misc minor rust here & there. Minor exorcism, and it's banished.

Funny thing about upholstery is new rear interior panels,
and new front seats look wonderful.
But doorcards are original, and fairly shabby by comparison.
No problem...vinyl dye will make 'em same color.
Close enough for me.
Just seems strange doorcards weren't redone.
The rear panels are nicely stitched pattern, not embossed.
Love tuckn'roll on front seats! Custom, but looks correct for the car/era.

Seller let me leave the 1100 motor behind...one less millstone to deal with.
Spare 1300 may come in handy for someone else.

Noticed the powerbrake booster has been removed.
Appears PB aren't really needed. Brake petal has good feel,
and doesn't take excessive petal pressure.

All in all, a fair price paid for solid basics,
and major (ie. spendy) stuff is done.
Just needs finessing. Don't they all?

Like it a lot Mike!!!...nice find!!...not that many Panoramas around for sure and this one looks to be in very nice condition.Enjoy it!!

Nice Mike

Wish I could find something like that around here. Unfortunately old Fiats in the Midwest are usually pretty eaten up by the rust bug. I am looking at an old 850 right now, but the rust has me worried.

Nice!

Neat! Is this the car that was difficult to communicate with the owner about? I thought I even read here that one person sent a deposit but then the owner wouldn't sell. Well, I hope all that got worked out.

It's a very nice looking car. Is it considered a wagon?

Engine pic...

PO of this car was stellar.
He had to delay consumation since Nov,
but kept me assured the car would become mine.
(you're thinking of Sacto 128 red 4dr, which had flakey seller)

Body is known as Familiare or Estate Wagon, which I think are OE terms.
Albert mentioned Panorama term, not sure of origin of that,
but think it might be generic, like Shooting Brake.

I've daily driven 128 sedan for several years. Never use back seat,
so have been wanting more functional wagon body for hauling/camping etc.

Swapped on DAYTONAS!
With Yoko AVS, also more surefooted in corners.

Engine pic for Toon. Fresh rebuilt 1300, even new pistons and mild PBS cam.
Reportedly gets 35mpg, and runs smoothly...but seems really doggy.
Suspect some tuning issue isn't right (it's that doggy),
so will run through all systems.
Strut tower brace fabbed by PO...it's a work of art, as are fabbed nerfbar bumpers.

To complicate things more, seems they were also called "Kombi" in Germany or Denmark but haven't officialy dig into that cause my german or Danish sucks!!......:excited:

Switchhitting on bumpers...

Have '72 bumpers adapted to my '76 Sedan.
SplitPea is a '73, so '72 bumpers will bolt right on it.
Which I plan to do before selling the Sedan.

Sorry Albert...I don't have digicam or even a cellphone, so no pics at this time.

Also changed grille to early honeycomb style.
It and wheels need painting to my special gold-tint silver.

Pic of Daytonas, previously on MeloYeloX.
Sadly, 13 yr old powdercoat has faded to nearly white...

Pic of early bumpers & gold-tint silver on the Campys, but more sparkly than pic shows...

Kombi

Is just the generic german term for station wagon.
It is short for Kombinationswagen, meaning combination car. :huh2:

Great car BTW, and a great color!
