I would be curious to get some weight figures (overall, front-only and rear-only), especially to see if there is an effect on F-R distribution.
I'm curious too, and, might have an easy opportunity with the guys from the crash test lab at work. But that would have to wait until after the summer closure is over (and after work hours...)

Finished the rear.
View attachment 75994I cut the original rubber bumper-stops flat and made shorter brackets to have them sit flush, and cover the original bumper bracket holes.

The right side has a connection for a tow eye.

Also, the rev counter now works. I think my transmission is definitely on the short side, or very track oriented. Fifth is 2800 rpms at 80 km/h, which means 7000 rpms would be 200 km/h (supposed to be the rev limiter) and 4200 rpms at 120 km/h cruising speed.

I might go up in rear tire size, was thinking 195/45R16 or 205/45R16 (that's 582 mm or 591 mm, +3,5% / +5% compared to the current 562 mm). But I'll wait until after the real shake-down at the track-day that I've planned the 16th of September. Also a safer place to set the brake balance properly.
I think I found out why my fifth gear rpm / vehicle speed ratio didn't match my calculations. 4 cardata, which I think clones factory data, states the fifth gear ratio is 0.946 (35/37), shorter than the 0.897 (35/39) other sources stated.

0.946 matches the rpms/speed, so the overal final drive ratio is not 3.47, but 3.66. Even shorter. Top speed is most likely determined by the rev limiter, as the same engine lists top speeds of 205-200 km/h in the Punto HGT, Barchetta and even the Stilo, that all have higher estimated total drag coefficients: 0.653/ 0.654 / 0.701 m2 respectively, versus the 0.601 m2 of the X (and either longer ratios and/or taller tires).

Today was my first track day!

It was a overwhelming experience, also got very usefull tips from the pro-driver that supervised my first session as novice as my co-driver.

As it was in France, there were quite a number of new Alpine A110's, but also several Lotus Elises and Porsches GT3's and GT4, plus a couple of Renault Clio RS's (the white one parked the wrong way above broke its suspension)

In the end my X1/9 was not much slower then some of the Lotus Elises, and catching up a similar aged and well preserved Renault Alpine A310:

My Fiat worked very well, the only noticable feat was the smell of the rear brakes once I really started to use them. They got hotter than the fronts. Rears are upgraded to Fiat 500 1.2 front calipers (48mm pitons on 240mm non-ventilated disks) the front's stayed much cooler (259 mm ventilated disks and Stilo/Abarth calipers with 54mm pistons).
But the brakes of some of the Porsches smelled equally strong, if not stronger.

It was really a great day.
