Stock tires for 1987 X

1987 FI White - 1976 Blue
Can someone confirm what size tires came stock for the '87 model year X with 13" aluminum wheels??

Mine is fitted with 175/70 x13" Pirelli P400 tires....

I have a set of 14" LANCIA wheels and I'd like to get some tires for the set.

185/60 13 Pirelli P6

Every phone dial rimmed Bertone X came with 185/60 HR13 tires, all the ones I saw in person were wrapped in Pirelli P6's.

From 1979 to 1985 they came with 165/70 SR13 tires, most that I saw in person were wrapped in Pirelli P3s or P33s (mine had P33s). Generally I would classify them as rim protectors, ie they keep you from denting your rims on the road but have few other redeeming qualities.

1974 to 1978 came with 145/80 13s, initially with MIchelin XVS's which were superb asymmetric tires. They didn't last long but what great tires they were.

So basically what I have on mine now is wrong!

I mean the rolling diameter of my wheels/tires is TALLER and skinnier than stock (185/60).....Which also means that the speed is actually SLOWER than the speedo indicates....is that right??

I hate the get rid of these Pirelli tires as they appear fairly new and have plenty of tread on them. But I will be looking around for some good rubber for my 14" wheels.

Thanks for the information - Vasilis

You're fine...

175/70 = 185/60 = 195/50, at least pretty close. your tires have a taller sidewall, so are not as good at cornering, but given tire choice in 185/60 yours may not be all that bad. Better mileage anyway. So relax and drive the snot out of them.

OR, if you really want to change them out, 175/70R13 is very common on many older VWs and other european cars, and you can sell them on to someone else if they're in very good shape.

Tire size and speedometer.

Checked the tire/rim link and if you're using the 175/70/13 and your guage is showing 60 m.p.h. your actually doing 57.5 ( 4.2 % ) slower.

Various tire sizes

I have a table that compares various 13, 14 and 15 inch tire sizes against the 145/80R13 that was the OEM stock size in 1974. (if something looks way off, speak up - I've fat-fingered spreadsheets before).

The original 145/80R13 is 22.1" in diameter.

185/60R13 is 21.7", so just a bit shorter, but still very popular. That's what I have on green car and orange car these days. Use these and your speedometer will read high, but by less than 5%.

195/60R13 at 22.2" would be near as no never mind a perfect match, but I'd be a bit worried about rubbing in front... would like to hear from someone who's tried it.

165/70R13 is spot on, at 22.1". I'm not surprised to hear that when fiat went to wider OEM tires, that's the size they chose.

195/60's pics

Mine are mounted with one stock spacer for each wheel, and the wheel's offset is 24mm. It's really close but there is no rubbing on the fender or inboard wheel well and the front is lowered about 2" using coilovers with 350# springs in the front and 300# in the rear.

also to note 165/70 is available at tire rack

The Sumitomo HTR T4. It's not the HTR200 "performance" tire but still a pretty good touring tire with a 560 wear rating compared to the 380 wear rating for the HTR 200.

If you are more of a casual cruiser that prefers smoothness to sportiness and you logs lots of miles, these would probably be a pretty good choice...

205 question

My x is lowered by maybe 1-2 inches,I think the springs might be from International auto,or something like that.If I put on 205,60's on the back and 185 60's in the front on 4 spoke Campagnolo's,would I get problems with rubbing on the wheel wels?
