As rotational speed of the water pump blades increases, it will turn any air in the cooling system into basically foam, which does not flow too well
When you bled, did you have the heater valve open? If not, you could not get any air out of the heater core, and also would risk blowing the valve out (which it sounds like must not have happened else your floorboards would be swimming in coolant)... Did you use the little bleed valve at the top of the radiator? Just curious - maybe some of our more knowledgeable readers have suggestions? -Mac.

I don't know "exactly" what power bleeding is... but I fill my X pointing DOWNHILL... or by jacking up the rear... or by pulling the radiator brace and dropping the radiator to the floor.
I never had any luck with the bleed screw!!!
Be sure if and when you reinstall the radiator that it sits squarely in its top mounts. this can't be seen, only felt by centering the bleed screw in the hole. I also helps with the best flow of air over the coils.
Let us know what ya find...
If that doesn't work... I'd pull the rad and have it flow tested... and then go from there.

It says that a hot running motor at only highway speeds is a symptom of a clogged radiator. Makes sense. I'd follow Tony's advice and have it flow tested/cleaned.
