Recently he decided to sell all rights to the car, hence the new name in a previous posting. Costs for conversion I remember as being around £5k (US = 1.48/£). Then that included the Uno turbo engine, uprated gearbox, wheels, tyres etc, etc, not a bad price given the work done. For me the large wing is a mixed blessing. Sure it creates downforce but hides anything following and offers an open challenge to any amoeba-brain with a beige hatchback.
Memory recalls that the wing was most effective at racing speeds. Add to that the fact that the original was fabricated in aluminium (aluminum-US) and that the manner of its fixing ensured the even distribution of downforce through the spaceframe rear members of the Dallara. Auto Elite examined the picture and learnt that the race car was an X1-9 in silhouette under the then motorsport silhouette regulations and would be impossible to reproduce without exact specification records and the cost to produce it would be greater than the annual GDP of Belgium!. So, Auto Elite set out to copy the design and add details to improve the overall day to day running of the car on the road and at a price that Sefik could afford. The final cost represents everything it took to make, original body mould patterns, turbo engine and modified gearbox, original Alleycat alloys , special Avon intermediate tyres, special spacers, lowering sport springs, modified bodywork fabrications, re-spayed inside and out, special paint, the list went on right down to the tiny rear number plate illumination pod. The costs of the mould tools were paid for by Auto Elite in order to acquire production autonomy. Sefik's car won a great deal of praise and has been in many car magazines around the world. Roberto Giordanelli test drove the car for Auto Italia (Dec 99 issue) and reported driving impressions from the point of view of an experienced racing driver , his comments praised the cars overall look, performance and handling and he offered a few pointers to how some further improvements could be made. Recently Auto Elite was taken over by Airmax who specialize in modified sports cars and continued to supply bodykits and fully built cars. The RVS is as close as you will get to an original Dallara racer in practice and for under £5'000. Airmax have handed over fully built car conversions to Jevron Motorsport who will develop the RVS into the GPR Supercharger which will be just sensational, the last in the line of the X190 conversions. The X190 rear aerofoil(wing)was designed for the specific application of the X1-9 body enhancement conversion. It has been admired and loathed since its introduction in 1998 and is regarded as the only practical means of providing downforce to the rear of a road-going high performance X1-9. It is attached to the original X1-9 boot lid via the hinge brackets and overlapping braced inner panel via an additional base plate. This is the simplest and strongest position available on the standard X1-9 bootlid without fabricating additional support structures. The aerofoil section was taken from an original Dallara Formula 3 car. The overall cord and span was calculated to give a favourable aspect ratio in relation to the drag/downforce effect at reasonable low speeds (excess of 100mph). The volume of wake was the a problem with an under-powered car so the angle of attack was set to create enough downforce to be noticeable at 100mph plus, but minimise drag. The aerofoil element was tested on a Le Mans replica prototype at various speeds from 100-150 mph and the settings recorded. This information was applied to the X1-9 set-up to establish a visually similiar functioning aerodynamic device to that of the original Dallara. The downforce at 100mph has been calculated to be 25 kg (that of a small child in your trunk) enough to impose a subtle pressure on the rear suspension without upsetting the overall balance of the handling. The addition of the front skirt and splitter will improve frontal dispersion of boundary airflow resistance with some downforce and improved directional airflow to the radiator and front brake ducting. This airflow is contaminated by the affixing of a front number plate and Airmax suggest self-addhesive numbers be applied to the lower skirt or nose section (with repect to local highway regulations). Recently he decided to sell all rights to the car, hence the new name in a previous posting. Costs for conversion I remember as being around £5k (US = 1.48/£). Then that included the Uno turbo engine, uprated gearbox, wheels, tyres etc, etc, not a bad price given the work done. For me the large wing is a mixed blessing. Sure it creates downforce but hides anything following and offers an open challenge to any amoeba-brain with a beige hatchback.
Memory recalls that the wing was most effective at racing speeds. Add to that the fact that the original was fabricated in aluminium (aluminum-US) and that the manner of its fixing ensured the even distribution of downforce through the spaceframe rear members of the Dallara. Auto Elite examined the picture and learnt that the race car was an X1-9 in silhouette under the then motorsport silhouette regulations and would be impossible to reproduce without exact specification records and the cost to produce it would be greater than the annual GDP of Belgium!. So, Auto Elite set out to copy the design and add details to improve the overall day to day running of the car on the road and at a price that Sefik could afford. The final cost represents everything it took to make, original body mould patterns, turbo engine and modified gearbox, original Alleycat alloys , special Avon intermediate tyres, special spacers, lowering sport springs, modified bodywork fabrications, re-spayed inside and out, special paint, the list went on right down to the tiny rear number plate illumination pod. The costs of the mould tools were paid for by Auto Elite in order to acquire production autonomy. Sefik's car won a great deal of praise and has been in many car magazines around the world. Roberto Giordanelli test drove the car for Auto Italia (Dec 99 issue) and reported driving impressions from the point of view of an experienced racing driver , his comments praised the cars overall look, performance and handling and he offered a few pointers to how some further improvements could be made. Recently Auto Elite was taken over by Airmax who specialize in modified sports cars and continued to supply bodykits and fully built cars. The X190 rear aerofoil(wing)was designed for the specific application of the X1-9 body enhancement conversion. It has been admired and loathed since its introduction in 1998 and is regarded as the only practical means of providing downforce to the rear of a road-going high performance X1-9. It is attached to the original X1-9 boot lid via the hinge brackets and overlapping braced inner panel via an additional base plate. This is the simplest and strongest position available on the standard X1-9 bootlid without fabricating additional support structures. The aerofoil section was taken from an original Dallara Formula 3 car. The overall cord and span was calculated to give a favourable aspect ratio in relation to the drag/downforce effect at reasonable low speeds (excess of 100mph). The volume of wake was the a problem with an under-powered car so the angle of attack was set to create enough downforce to be noticeable at 100mph plus, but minimise drag. The aerofoil element was tested on a Le Mans replica prototype at various speeds from 100-150 mph and the settings recorded. This information was applied to the X1-9 set-up to establish a visually similiar functioning aerodynamic device to that of the original Dallara. The downforce at 100mph has been calculated to be 25 kg (that of a small child in your trunk) enough to impose a subtle pressure on the rear suspension without upsetting the overall balance of the handling. The addition of the front skirt and splitter will improve frontal dispersion of boundary airflow resistance with some downforce and improved directional airflow to the radiator and front brake ducting. This airflow is contaminated by the affixing of a front number plate and Airmax suggest self-addhesive numbers be applied to the lower skirt or nose section (with repect to local highway regulations).
