True Classic
It has been a while and my taste is beyond eclectic....so what's the first thing that pops in my head?

This is definitely one of my favorite live perfomances - in any language, Period -- even though I don't understand a word.

EDIT on May 1, 2011: some songs will be very heavy, I will post a note on those entries.

videos

Kind of pain to click to Youtube et all.

T

I had the same question recently and this was the instruction I was given... worked for me about a month ago, though I haven't tried recently:

"As for posting vids: I always open a second tab for youtube and on the other tab, keep Xweb open with my "reply" to thread box up . I then go into "my videos" on youtube, I click on the vid I want to post. When the video comes up on screen I hit pause and go up to the address bar http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I copy or cut that and click on the xweb tab again and paste it in my reply."

Hope that helps!

New day, different song in my head...

This could and will vary greatly with each new day - It could be blissfully serene or "blisteringly heavy". Feel free to add you own.

Today's song comes from 1993. If you like GNR, you will probably agree to some extent that this is one of their better songs from that time in their career. But with so many great songs on that two album set, this one kind of got pushed off the air too fast.

This song is not blisteringly heavy and is suitable for most all people

I'll join in, for today anyway...

Cannibal Queen by Miniature Tigers
Fun song and video.

This isn't exactly a new song or band, but I was just introduced to them within the last month. I think they're great and this is one of the more original music videos I've seen in a while. Fun song, too.

Nothing offensive here or overly hard music wise, I don't think anyway, but the video is a bit *different*. Hope you enjoy.

Now that's why this section is cool!

I may have stumbled across this eventually, but it is always cool to see and hear new things. Judging from the video, it appears the influences for this band seem to be the Foo Fighters, the Beatles, and strangely enough, Steve Zahn.

LOVE the harmonies of this group and I will likely have the hook bouncing around the noggin today.

Thanks for sharing
Tommy

glad you enjoyed

Glad you liked it Tommy. I'm a bit of a music nut so enjoy getting exposed to new groups & songs too. I doubt I'll be posting on here daily or anything, but might share some new stuff I come across from time to time.

More info on Miniature Tigers: they have two albums, the 1st is Tell it to the Volcano and 2nd Fortress. The content of the first, which the song I posted is on, is pretty similar to this song. A very catchy and fun album, with a few slower songs too. The 2nd is much more unique with newer sounds and different song structures. All mostly indie/alternative rock influenced. If someone liked this song and wanted to check out more, but was a bit leary of jumping in head first, I'd recommend the first album, but the 2nd is my favorite.

Take care,
Jim

Darn it Jim...

woke up this morning with the soulful sounds of Saul Hudson's talking guitar firmly planted in my mind's ear. I could feel and hear every note as if they had something to say. But then what do I have in my head all the rest of the day? "Comin' for your heart like a cannibal" with that VERY beatle-esque harmonizing. All I can say is...

Thanks. I will definitely be checking out some of their other stuff... as my wife reads this over my shoulder, rolls her eyes and says "oh great"...

if you like quirky, check this one out? in espanol...

not sure what the appeal of spanish music is for me but...

This is one that comes across the ipod once and a while and 5 years since it was loaded I still don't fast forward by it.

beautiful? not really
great voice? debatable
Interesting...I think so

Mana' - Rayando El Sol -- After a really long day of work

and a fun night of four softball games (playing) and two games of bowling, this is what I am listening to before the ipod and I shut off for the night, or actually morning. That makes this my Song of the day for Saturday April 30.

Whatdaya know more Espanol...I love this band for their sound, and the quality and passion of their live performances. You can tell that while some people simply make music, people like these actually live it.

I am wondering just how popular this band would have been worldwide if they had recorded and toured in english too.

Belanova - Rosa Pastel

Thanks for sharing that one, Tommy, I liked it. I usually have a hard time getting into songs sung in different languages, simply because I don't know what they're saying. (not that I always understand lyrics sung in english)... But if the song is good enough it won't make a difference, and that was the case here, I enjoyed listening to it.

I wanted to comment about the GnR one you put up earlier too... I like GnR and think that's a decent song, though IMO not one of their best. Always enjoy listening to Slash shred though! That video though, it's rediculous! :eek:mg: I had never seen it before and laughed at parts... sort of crazy the different lengths they go to. All for "expression" I guess, but I think it's way over the top.

I'm on my way out the door to work on the car, so I'll check the newest one later.

Ha ha Jim, You gotta remember the time...

Early 90's babe. Hit movies were T2 and the like - action, special effect "illusions" (get it?) and quick hit edits ruled the day. This is when videos were movies, for better or worse, This video was actually part of a Trilogy consisting of November Rain, Don't Cry and Estranged. While still contrived and self-indulgent as a whole, taken in that context the whole story makes a bit more "sense".

BTW it was rumored that "use your illusion" was referring to using the imagery experienced by the use of heroin and other opiates...

And, I am glad you liked Belanova. They are a love it/hate it, get it/don't get it kind of outfit. If you think you "hate it", but aren't sure, you will eventually come to love it.

Nice talking music with ya. Looking forward to some more new stuff when you get the chance.

For Sunday May 1, "God's Will"

As a reminder to be grateful for the true gifts in life - family, friends and good health...

I'm not much of a "tear to my eye" kind of guy, but when I first heard the song it touched me with line ..."And the he prayed for everybody in the world - except him."

When I saw this video, I was moved.

I like Robert Plant's twist on this Los Lobos song...

...he puts a bit of an edge to it. But the original from Los Lobos is really great too. The composer of the song is the guy driving the Caddy:

I love Zep, and therefore feel very tenative to speak ill of Mr. Plant, but the guy could slice some of the hair off. Maybe I'm just jealous.

Personally I've been watching a lot of old live stuff on youtube... and currently have been digging this old Led Zeppelin classic, complete with Jimmy wearing a sweater his 'mum' must have given him for Christmas. Funny to see him live without his Dragon Pajama's or whatever that suit was he was sweating in later in the 70's.

Cool to see Page playing the 3 pickup LP Custom Black Beauty with a Bigsby that was stolen in 1970. Gibson's Custom Shop recreated it for release years later. (cha-ching! there is one for sale at Music Zoo right now... a mere $42,000! http://www.themusiczoo.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=6280 )

May 2 - something MUCH lighter - in sound and spirit

Heard this a few weeks ago and I still have the opening bit of music and lyrics firmly stuck in my head.
