Yuck!

Excellent new band with a great first album. I had heard a song or two before but just heard the whole album today. Great stuff!

I really wanted to post this song too but most of the better quality audio versions available just showed the cover art, which I didn't think was appropriate to post here, so (while not spending much time searching) this is the best quality alternative I found... just a fan made video. It's not that bad I guess, but I was only interested in sharing the song.

Devo

Thanks Tommy, I woke up with Devo stuck in my head this morning! I don't have anything against that song, I'm just really surprised to wake up with it playing in my mind. The imagery of that video and seeing it after who knows how long made me laugh yesterday, and this morning I'm greeted by it again! haha, good stuff!

May 3, Ipod on random...

Not sure how to label this band. Love this song but they are much better than the music they are currently playing imho

Welcome to the Family

What do you get when you combine Dream Theater and Bad Religion influences mixed with horror movie themes performed by ultra talented musicians (actually Portnoy from DT playing drums on this CD)?

Wow, you can definitely hear some early 2000

influences in thier music, which is not a bad thing.

I'm kind of in a "metal" mode this morning mode, so I'll take it later when I chill a bit.

Thanks for sharing again.

My turn then...

I can't commit to one favorite band, but these chaps would certainly be in the top five. So much great music came out of Manchester, I often wish I'd been there instead of the home counties...

First one with a very wacky video:

then back to the 80's for some nostalgia:

When I was hardcore skateboarding from 1976 to 1980... I remember we used to laugh our tails off at the Ramones and DEVO... of course like typical teen boys 13-16yrs old who make fun of something, we'd NEVER actually listened to any of their stuff. No one else at our school seemed to be listening to them either... we were sort of in a isolated 'cell' of American kids living overseas doomed to Armed Forces Radio... Casey Kasem's show was cutting edge on weekends!

One day one of my good skateboarding friends, Sean, came over with a DEVO cassette and laid down the law. "So I bought a DEVO album... it's pretty good. And you guys are going to listen to it!"

We skateboarded on a sketchy homemade ramp for a while digging to DEVO "Are We Not Men?" pounding out of a Sharp 9090! By the end of our session no one was making fun of the music and I'm pretty sure we all grew up a little that day. Our eyes and ears were opened up a little to say the least.

Looks like

I may have found some budding SpudBoys... Devo is best served live and I saw them... lemme think... probably 10 or 11 times from 1978 to 1990... some of them free, cuz I knew the security folks.

Good times and great memories...

New Order was way cool, too.

That guitar is just filthy...

And I mean that in a good way! if you ever saw Weezer or Collective Soul back in the late 90's/early 00's you know what I mean by a dirty distorted sound that just dominated the sound. Loved it then and love it now. This sound brings me back to the days at Miramar Marine Air Station in 2000. Good times...

And yeah Mark, thanks for chiming in too with the New Order. I'll stick with the newer and sometimes foreign stuff and ya'll can keep blowing me away with blasts from the past.

Mark!

Man, you just helped me find a song that's been in my head for a long time but couldn't recall the name or artist. Hearing it now, it's not quite the blockbuster I remember it to be. No doubt these guys were big time into Kraftwerk though.

The song?

Spudboys! When I came back Stateside from living as a military dependent in Naples Italy for 4 years... it was 1980 and suddenly I was in area where skateboarding had dried up the year before... A kid down the street had a skateboard signed by Mark Mothersbaugh at a DEVO concert! It said "WEAR YOUR HELMET!" then had his signature slapped on under it. How freaking cool!

That is cool!

Best I did was to sing the response "We are Devo!" to the "Are we not men?" on the mic with Mothersbaugh for a minute or so at the Universal Amphitheater on their '82 tour.

I was still young enough to be stoked.

So totally Macabre and very catchy at the same time

It's like watching the Family Guy, you cringe at how crude it is, but you still laugh anyway...

Try this one on for size... NOTICE: RATED R/NC17 language and theme content, if you offend easily, or even not so easily, it's probably best to move on to another post, lol. This is a song I wish was in Spanish so I had no clue what it said, because musically it's brilliant - to me that is.
