Trans gaskets?

This falls under wishful thinking... Is there any way to change the trans gaskets without removing the trans from the car? Pretty Please say yes?

Hmm, I want to say no, that there are bolts that go in from the bell housing.

Removing the Gearbox is not all that tough. I just did my clutch in a few hours today.

I figured...😳 I just got it all together though.. Removal isn't too bad, but getting the spline shaft back in is no fun... It's a new old stock 5 speed I got from MWB, never been in a car before but it's leaking quite a bit from those seams... Also, the rubber tripode boots that I put in 6 months ago are already cracking!?🤬

The 5spd doesn't have tripods boots. Maybe you have a bad CV joint boot? Or maybe you have a leaky axle seal?

Thanks for the replies guys. This is a Regata 5 speed.. It does have tripode boots like a 4 speed..
It's definitely leaking from the case gaskets...

Have a look at the "5 speed 101" by Steve Hoelscher. Most of it applies to the 4 speed as well, including the 128 variant.
I had a look, that process is quite elaborate.. I don't want to disassemble the trans ( gears/shafts/bearings). I just want to replace the case gaskets. I'm particularly thinking of that detent plate assembly, do I need to do anything to it to remove the case?

Yes, you will want to remove the detent plate, balls, and springs (being careful not to lose them and be able to put them back into the correct place)

You will not need to pull the gears or shifters to re-seal the case halves.

Well, good news! After cleaning, (then waiting) and careful inspection it looks like that oil was pretty much all coming from the detent plate. I replaced that gasket and changed the tripode boots to my new MWB ones I ordered. The old ones (only 6 months old!) We're cracking severely and had plastic bushings instead of metal😠 will snap some pics tomorrow, I think those came from eastern Europe...

Only 6 months, no driving...
