It bounces to 14, stays there for 3 seconds, drop to 10 for 1 second, then bounces to 14 again for 3 seconds, back to 10 for 1 second, etc. -- and continues this cycle.

I can tell it's not the meter itself, because when I have the lights and other electrics on, I can see and hear the dip in power each time.

Any ideas??

BTW: Thanks to everyone!!! This forum and the generous people in it have been essential in helping me get my X running. I didn't have the $$ or the means or the knowledge to do it without you.

I hope to round you up and buy you all a drink (or several) one day!

I don't want to keep going through them if I can help it.

Should I be checking for anything else in the system that might be putting undue stress on the regulator?

The v-reg, though, is probably the most frequently swapped out of all charging system items. They do fail, and it sounds like the symptoms you describe. [FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->since I've owned the car (3 months).

And the problem just started.

So I'll take Mac's word for now that they are easy failures, and just replace it and see what happens.

My wire connections at my alternator concern me though... the wires look a little thin worn and whimpy.

About what gage should the wire be that connects to the alternator from the starter? And from the alternator out to the rest of the system?

I should probably clean these connections and make sure they're strong. Couldn't hurt.
