What did you do to your X1/9 today ?

4 thou of the head, but that’s not the issue. I measured the seating depth in the head and block and there was more than enough clearance. I think these are none original and the OD is larger, they didn’t sit square in the head and caught on the block when I tapped it down with the mallet

wondering if they can be eliminated…
Absolutely not, they are vital to proper operation.

Install the head gasket on the block, then fit the dowels to make sure the gasket is aligned, and then lower the head down over the studs (as yours is a 1300)

Use a little NICKEL based anti seize (very very sparingly) on the studs where they interface with the head, as this will prevent galvanic corrosion between the steel stud and the alloy head (which is what makes the heads stick on)

New dowels fitted perfectly and following Steve’s guidance the head sat down perfectly as well. Thank you!

Walked by it while walking the dog.

The other one is just on the other side of the garage wall with its stable mate the 850

They may very well be originals. I've found several to have similar issues. They are brittle and tend to crack and break easily. They also tend to become deformed or distorted over time. I suspect ideally they should be made with a better material or a thicker wall or such. Because I don't find any of these issues with the same style head dowels on other makes of engines.

After getting them blasted nearly 2 weeks ago today was the first day here in Houston with temps over 50F (hit nearly 65!) so gave them a wash with dish soap Friday, dried inside under a warm ceiling fan then primed them Saturday. 2 cans was just enough.
Then after a few hours in the garage brought inside again.
May spray the color this afternoon, or later in the week. Had second thoughts about going gold but will test Dupli-Color "Silver" and Rustoleum "Steel" to see which one I like better.
Moved the Gulf ME-262 out of the overspray zone when finishing the barrels.

If there's not already a thread on these, how about starting one so we can follow along? Does seem like a very good value!

Looking good.

That 262 likely goes like stink.

Got a set from Andy last year for my 80's. 20210604_145849_resized.jpg20210604_150026_resized.jpg

Quite straightforward. You should be able to use the existing bumper holes.
That was "relatively" easy to do on the rears however back there his did you secure the wrap around?

Also, I'm CLUELESS as to how to mount the fronts. I have them test fit with tape (pictured), but they certainly don't line up with the factory mounting holes, and there are no directions as how to attach them. Part of my reasoning going with these was I was of the understanding that they were "plug and play" in the original locations. That's not the case, and I'm not a body worker. Any insights/directions you might offer would be greatly appreciated!

I posted on one of your posts on FB.

You have them too high on the front of the car and need to have a gap between the body and the back of the bumpers.

Have a look at Paul Valente’s car which is a ‘74 for really good reference of where the bumpers should be. Paul’s car is the light blue one you often see with four spoke Abarth type rims.

These will look great on your car.

I'm with Karl, I'd just replace the entire assembly instead of attempting to replace just the cable. These are a nightmare to rewrap the cable onto them. And as he said there are lots of other parts that will be worn. The fact someone else has attempted prior repairs tells me it has pre-existing problems. I believe the ones from Ladas is a direct fit for very little money.
Do you happen to have a link for one of these LADA window regulators?
